At #360StratCom, we welcomed @krmaher, @Connect_Fund's Jochai Ben-Avie, @theGNI's @pielemeier and @UniLeiden's @gap_the_mind to discuss the Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) and how it can best be leveraged to advance a proactively democratic digital world. 🧵atlanticcouncil.org/content-series…
@krmaher @Connect_Fund @theGNI @pielemeier @UniLeiden @gap_the_mind For the FOC to reach its greatest potential, it needs to articulate the connections between pluralistic, open societies and a secure, interoperable, free, and open internet. @krmaher explains:
@krmaher @Connect_Fund @theGNI @pielemeier @UniLeiden @gap_the_mind If the FOC is to grow and function effectively, it is critical that members share common values and principles. Given how complex and ever-changing the environment in which the FOC operates is, @gap_the_mind argues, member states must be held accountable.

After @DFRLab discovered a small inauthentic network on @facebook promoting posts critical of Western sanctions against #Russia, an independent @Meta investigation revealed a larger network of 2300+ assets promoting Kremlin interests across Europe. 🧵⬇️ medium.com/dfrlab/russia-…
@facebook @Meta .@Meta concluded the network originated from #Russia. @DFRLab noticed several indicators of previous Russian influence ops including the amplification of pro-Kremlin narratives, paid promotion, inaccurate and non-native grammar; impersonating real people/institutions, and more.
@facebook @Meta .@DFRLab first ID'ed the network with a page called 'Winsome wc5.' The page categorized itself as a restaurant and used the logo of German media outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung for its profile pic. Its sole post called for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline's implementation. Image
