The further Russification of #Ukraine's lands continue. Any wonder Ukraine has been removing all traces of past links with Russia anywhere that freedom still exists?
The only problem is they are in the occupied part of Ukraine. In #Russia controlled #Donetsk of course it's so free that they are detained by police, sacked, humiliated and forced to apologise on video.
Independent #Russia media report a drone exploding in the sky over the #Kaluga region.
The unmanned aerial vehicle was supposedly flying towards a military facility. #StopRussia
There is very little news to report from #Ukraine so far today. Most media there, and in #Russia, concentrating on the devastating earthquake in #Turkiyre/#Syria - especially after the recent second major quake.
If you want to know the minutiae of the details on the ground - here is the morning summary from #Ukraine's Defence HQ.
They itemise 10 #Russia attacks in the areas of Kupyiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka, which were repelled.
I'll post a link not the video because of Twitter's arbitrary rules on banning accounts.
This on 🇺🇦TV reportedly shows #Wagner troops attacking near #Bakhmut, but their commander was wounded, so his own soldiers took dragged him + hacked him to death.
However the Ukrainian Catholic Church is switching to the Gregorian calendar from 1 September. So Christmas Day will not be on 25 December for all Catholics in the country - most seemed to switch this year anyway.
Boxing world champ Oleksandr #Usyk makes a personal appeal to the Head of the International Olympic Committee
A functioning, genuine Federation with free elections for each state would probably be the best solution for long term security once Putin is brought down.
In Russian, but worth translating.
1/2 #Ukraine's army still under unimagineable pressure on the eastern front. President Zelenskyy made a stirring speech thanking soldiers for holding the line.
#Bakhmut and also #Mariinka further south are suffering the most. ZSU may have to retreat soon from the latter.
2/2 #Bakhmut can likely hold for quite a bit longer yet. While they hold the town they can pick off huge numbers of #Russia's soldiers, which will eventually increase the pressure back home.
#Ukraine is also missing many troops, being hastily trained on new western equipment.
By the way, still very quiet in #Ukraine. Much fewer instances of even small scale shelling than usual.
Hello and welcome to day 349 of #Russia's war of choice.
#Ukraine still defends valiantly, but the west's tardiness to act has placed them under severe pressure for the next 6 weeks until trained troops return with some new toys.
All the news in one thread, read on...
First the link to yesterday in case you were busy or just want a summary.
A lot of flim flam was written but actually you missed very little. Here's one of the shortest threads of the last 11 months so far:
#Russia's losses in the last 24 hours (estimated by Kyiv) show very little equipment destroyed but still insane amounts of conscripts and mobilised soldiers killed.
Welcome to Thurday's Daily Thread covering #Russia's war on #Ukraine
We've reached Day 344 of the conflict which Putin said would be over in 10 days, and which would have ended long ago had the current western support started 10 months ago.
But it's another bad start to the day
A fairly quiet Wednesday ended with more death with a terrorist attack on the eastern city of #Kramatorsk in the #Donetsk region.
An update on that in the next tweet, but if you missed anything, here's the link for yesterday's thread:
#Russia's terrorist attack on #Kramatorsk has left 3 dead and 21 now known to be injured (the total's just been updated).
A short while ago the local council released this video detailing the 1 February attack and ending with the words "we will overcome everything together🇺🇦"
Thanks for reading the start of yet another daily thread documenting the news + crimes of #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine
Wednesday represents Day 343 of the conflict.
If you have the ability to support me, feel free to buy me a coffee (link in bio), but these threads remain free
A busy day yesterday - I will repost soon about the scandalous actions of Russia's gymnastics team.
But lots more news too, including a late announcement from the US of more military aid.
Catch up on everything that happened Tuesday right here:
I am hoping this starts a campaign to not only get the seemingly Soviet loving @gymnastics (cc @BritGymnastics) to change its stance, but also the whole @Olympics movement.
