Today's news is dominated by #Syria, where Islamic rebels completed their overthrow of the Assad regime by taking #Damascus overnight. #Ukraine: 2. The Syrian Army seems to have melted away, showing little resistance to the rebel tide, many Assad troops defecting. Assad's core Alawite sect (Shia Muslim like Iran) along the coastal strip were expected to support him, but in the end they defected too, many tearing down statues of Assad & his father.
