Welcome to another daily thread for Day 384 of #Russia's illegal war on #Ukraine.
In yesterday's thread we heard that the ICC is planning on bringing two war crimes charges against the Kremlin.
If you want to review anything from Monday, it's all here⬇️
The invaders hit another apartment block, this time in #Kramatorsk in #Donetsk oblast.
At least three people were injured when the rocket smashed into the building, but rescuers are still sifting through the rubble.
Update from #Kramatorsk, where one person is dead after #Russia's rocket attack which hit and damaged 6 town centre residential buildings.
President @ZelenskyyUa wrote "Every strike that takes an innocent life must result in a lawful and just sentence that punishes murder."
A loud explosion heard in #Odesa (RU: #Odessa) today.
There was an air raid warning active at the time. Clearly air defences were working, but it's not yet clear whether #Russia hit any targets.
There are power cuts in the city but DTEK says these were planned.
A young woman seems to have a grudge here. Against the state? Against neighbours? Who knows?
But she calmly took a taxi to this apartment block in #Krasnodar and set fire to papers in the letter boxes.
No serious damage occurred and no one was injured.
I forgot to highlight this yesterday, but continuing today is the trial of one of the few people I admire in #Russia today.
Charged with treason, @vkaramurza faces 24 years in prison. Putin is so scared of him, the trial is behind closed doors.
A lot of people have contributed story suggestions over the last 24 hours, some of whom wish to remain anonymous. Thanks to you all, Carolynne, Renee, Simon, Naomi et al.
DMs open for tip-offs.💙💛
It's claimed another civilian has been killed by #Russia's shelling in #Ukraine.
#Kharkiv region governor, Oleh Synyehubov says a 55 year old woman died when "an enemy projectile hit a civilian car"
#USA is accusing #Russia of deliberately hitting an MQ-8 Reaper reconnaissance drone over the Black Sea.
The Command of US Forces in Europe blames one of two Russian Su-27 fighter jets which "carried out a dangerous and unprofessional interception" of the drone. #StopRussia
The fire following the car bomb explosion in #Melitopol' is now out.
There are various rumours about who was in the car and who carried out the attack. Some say it was score settling among the occupiers themselves.
No official information, but officials say no-one died.
The Occupiers' media channels now say three people were injured as a result of the car bomb attack in #Melitopol'
They still refuse to name any of the victims, or their condition.
It's now confirmed that one person died in the #Melitopol bombing.
It could be traitor Ivan Tkach who has now been named among the three victims.
Tkach owned one of the largest transport companies in Melitopol and was made Director of "City Transport" by the Occupiers' council.
#USA has sumoned the Russian ambassador over the downing of a drone over the Black Sea
#Russia claims its fighters did not fire on the drone and did not "come into contact" with the US UAV.
"Due to sharp manoeuvering, the drone went into a dive, lost altitude and hit the water."
Earlier in the thread I wrote about the Governor of #Luhansk, Serhii Haidai leaving the post.
The governor says they shot down all missiles, but this video looks very much like the straight trajectory of a missile hitting a ground target. It's small, but moving left to right.
It would be very interesting to know the direction of travel.
And another video of the arc of one of the missiles in #Belgorod. Some report the rocket changed direction sharply. Any sign of air defence here?
Anyone able to geolocate to judge from where it was fired?
It's also Thursday 17 July, a beautiful mid-summer's day, and on this day 11 years ago Russia murdered almost 300 crew and passengers when shooting down flight MH-17 over occupied Ukraine.
The Terrorism never stopped.
Here's the daily thread
Wednesday is well worth catching up on if you missed anything from yesterday's🧵
Numerous new Russian war crimes including a sickening town centre attack during evening rush hour, a Latvian mayor injured in the war the maiden flight of Ukraine's Big Bird
A very warm welcome and thank you for joining me on Day 1239 of Russia's war of choice, Putin's choice to attempt to remove Ukraine from the map and commit genocide on its people.
Every single day I put all the important news in one handy thread. Here is Wednesday's feed:
Yesterday was Ukraine's Day of Statehood.
Kyiv celebrated with successful attacks on military targets in Russia.
But the night saw more huge drone swarm attacks on a number of Ukrainian cities.
Catch up on anything you missed, here:
A series of cities in Ukraine clearing up this morning after night attacks.
Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Krivyi Rih, Odesa and Vinnytsia were all hit. So far no authorities have reported any deaths overnight, but there are many injuries.
1/3 So Trump has, crucially, for the first time, allowed US weapons to go to Ukraine, so it is a step forward. And while no specifics, let's hope the best long-range weapons are to be given.
But no confirmation about the U.S. using Russia's frozen assets in favour of Ukraine.
So why a special day?
@generalkellogg has arrived in Kyiv to convey expected good news.
The sanctions guys - @LindseyGrahamSC + @SenBlumenthal meet with @SecGenNATO + Trump later, with the US President virtually confirming sanctions and releasing Patriot air defence systems:
It may be Sunday, but no rest!
I'm back again, for Day 1236 of Russia's all-out invasion of Ukraine.
All the news, fact-checked, all the time.
Everything is free, no substack or premium, but if you appreciate my work, you can show it here🙏💙💛 ko-fi.com/twmcltd
So Russia is currently 1233 days behind schedule in its expectation to control Kyiv.
I've documented it here every day. Saturday had some more blatant Russian war crimes, starting with more death and destruction.
If you were away from screens, catch up⬇️
Starting with breaking news as Ukraine has announced it has killed the assassins of an Intel officer gunned down in broad daylight in Kyiv a few days ago.
Intel boss Vasyl Malyuk says a special Russian FSB/combat group murdered Col Ivan Voronych.
