Hello and welcome to the daily "#Ukraine" thread for Day 424 of the awful and illegal war started by #Russia.

For those of us in #England, happy St George's Day. It's also London Marathon day, so let's wish luck to this remarkable man: #StandWithUkraine

Yesterday we saw #Russia's brotherly love for Eton Musk. Russian advances in #Bakhmut. Explosions in occupied #Melitopol as well as usual attacks on the liberated part of #Kherson and #Kharkiv.

Review anything you missed by clicking and scrolling⬇️

For the first time the @TheStudyofWar states that #Ukraine troops have claimed land south of the river (left bank) in #Kherson region.

I'm not 100% convinced. I'd say this coastal region is uncontrolled, with very regular sorties by 🇺🇦 tactical squads:

understandingwar.org/backgrounder/r…
#Russia's losses continue to creep up...
Almost 700 killed on the battlefield in the last 24 hours*

Again fairly large numbers of fuel tanks + special equipment, while also the helicopter I wrote about yesterday.

* estimate by #Ukraine govt.

Also @ToniScottSays reminds me it's Shakespeare's birth (and death) day adding "may the bard be with you!"

As long as you don't think this thread is much ado about nothing, I'm happy.
Cheers for all the replies + retweets helping overcome Twitter restrictions💙💛
More on the #Kherson "landings" by #Ukraine troops on the other side of the river.

Here's one, sent by @VASILIS11O - again I'm told these have been happening for weeks and are getting more common, but I'm not convinced there's a "permanent" camp (yet!):
Also in occupied bits of #Kherson & #Zaporizhzhia regions, many reports of #Russia's invaders grilling locals to know how many fighting age men remain in their village.

Trying to get occupied peoples to fight against their own is a war crime, but as UK says, 🇷🇺 is desperate Image
A gradfather on the outskirts of #Moscow says he found this American weapon in the garbage.

"Valeriy" found the Shoulder-Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) grenade launcher in a waste truck behind a supermarket while he looked for cardboard.

Yesterday I posted a video from #ChasivYar, from where the supplies and rotating troops come from for #Bakhmut

Between the two on this route is the village of #Khromove. Sadly, the drone footage shows how many casualties there have been, and continue to be, on this deadly route.
The #Kherson landings again now.
My assessment confirmed by spokeswoman for 🇺🇦 South Command, Natalia Humeniuk

"When the front line passes through the wide and powerful obstacle of Dnipro river, it's a very difficult task. That's why the 'Study of War' needs to be patient." Image
A very nice surprise this morning to find a 'Ko-Fi' donation from #Bavaria - thank you Dr! Sunday wouldn't be Sunday without a nice cappuccino!
Vielen dank!

In #Zaporizhzhia's front line, a single small bomb from a single drone causes a lot of damage.

It's clear a fair bit of ammo was ignited at this camp used by #Russia.

#StopRussia
Just scum. It's presumed this is an occupier from #Russia in #Zaporizhzhia region.

While this cannot be conclusively proven, it's highly likely the case. But what sort of human does this to a clearly frail, likely disabled person?

#RussiansGoHome
#Cyprus finally seems to have been embarrassed into action against #Russia's colluders and sanction busters.

The President promises more action and possibly criminal charges against 23 Cypriots + 12 companies named by US/UK.

cyprus-mail.com/2023/04/23/mor…
More unsuspecting reinforncements on their way, possibly to hell.

"Columns from 20 to 50 trucks" full of #Russia's latest recruits heading to #Luhansk region in occupied #Ukraine.

Four people injured by Russian attacks in #Donetsk

There were two airstrikes on #Vuhledar (RU: #Ugledar) where the Governor says a high rise wa destroyed.

"#Bakhmut #Mariinka #Kurakhove #Avdiivka and other settlements also came under fire."

#RussiaIsATerroristState ImageImageImageImage
#Spain's Def Min confirmed six Leopard-2s are already on their way to #Ukraine.

Margarita Robles said the tanks left Santander port "along with 20 heavy vehicles."

#StandWithUkraine
Uh oh #Russia. What's happened in #Vladimir region (150-300km east of Moscow)?

Baza reports big unexplained explosions in the forest!

#StopRussia #StandWithUkraine Image
Baza also has a story about this poor man, who suffered a stroke and a brain haemmorage in #Moscow

Such is #Putin's #Russia, that police arrested him for being drunk. The next day police just dumped him on the street, without his expensive rings but with bruises from batons. Image
WTF? Another startling example of life in #Putin's #Russia!
Employees at "Wildberries" are forced to strip to their underwear and pass over belongings for "inspection" before starting work.

A work by @banksy on the outskirts of #Kyiv is being dismantled, but protected.

In Irpen, the council installed a structue of concrete blocks as the bombed building is demolished. The artwork is being cut out and placed in a metal frame, to be displayed elsewhere.
#SaveUkraine ImageImage
#Russia is throwing a hissy-fit over the U.S. refusing to give visas to so-called journalists from the Terrorist State.

FM Lavrov, who'll chair UN meetings said it "showed the worth of solemn assurances on freedom of speech”, conveniently ignoring Russia jailing a US journalist.
#Wagner owner Prigozhin promises to "destroy everyone who is on the battlefield and not take a single prisoner anymore."

He was responding to a recording, suspected by many to be fake, allegedly of #Ukraine military discussing how they killed a captured wounded Wagner soldier. Image
The headline from today's update from #Ukraine's General Staff is that #Russia suffered heavy losses in #Avdiivka.
Kyiv claims the invaders tried unsucessfully to advance.

Ukraine also says "heavy battles are on-going for the city of #Bakhmut."

Neither claim can be verified
Please allow me to say a few thank yous for coffees received this afternoon.

@p_o_funke, My scientific friend from USA and here EODmo bought me a virtual cuppa!
Love and peace to you all💙💛

An elderly grandfather has been killed by Russian shelling in #Kherson.

The 80 year old was hit in the village of #Kizomys this afternoon.

A local school and 25 residential buildings were hit.
Two women, aged 57 and 85 were wounded, the latter suffering a head injury.
One person's died in shelling of occupied #Donetsk.

This happened in the Petrovskyi district of the city.

This was filmed near the railway station in occupied #Donetsk.

#RussiansGoHome
#Russia's state news agency reports the mystery disappearance of three diplomats in a pleasure boat in the Red Sea.

My first thought is they're fleeing something and faking death. Why was the ID tracking switched off? Image
A couple of people alerted me to the fact that I have started appearing in searches again today.

Surely not unconnected is the fact I have more new followers today then in the past 10 days combined.

Thanks to everyone who retweets, replies and likes to beat Twitter's algorithm! Image
Suspicious?

The deaths of two MPs in #Russia has been announced on the same day.

56 year old Dzhasharbek Uzdenov had reportedly been ill for a long time, while Nikolai Bortsov who was 77 has also died. Both were from the majority "United Russia" party. ImageImage
A Ukrainian oligarch who's under investigation for helping #Russia, has turned up in #Switzerland after managing to flee the country.

Vadim Novinsky, who's also suspected of fraud, now masquerades as a deacon at the Russian Orthodox Church in #Zurich.

20min.ch/story/gesuchte…
When an editor and then when lecturing in journalism I used to preach this. Figures mean little to most people. Make relevant facts.

Great job here by @Mylovanov showing the damage caused by #Russia to its peaceful neighbour #Ukraine.

I started the day wishing well to Roman Kashpur.

I'm delighted to say that 4 years after losing half a leg when stepping on a landmine, Roman typified the #Ukraine spirit and completed the London Marathon today.

Hello on Thursday morning, 16 October 2025.

Russia is now going all out to make life unliveable for Ukraine's citizens, destroying all energy and heat infrastructure it can.

While Ukraine hits energy targets too, it's almost all to hit Russia's exports/finances.

Here's the🧵
Day 1331 is well underway: I hope we can penetrate the algorithm and get people to actually see today's🧵

Yesterday, views for the 1st page is at 16k, about half what it should be. Please quote tweet or repost various posts during the day

Catch up here:
Last night I wrote of a possible hit on another refinery.

In the last couple of minutes, Ukraine has confirmed the strike in Saratov, which they say directly supports Russia's army.

It's refining capacity is almost 5m tons.

Every Single Day.
Ukraine's brave men and women on (or supporting) the frontline cannot switch off, so neither shall I in documenting the major events of Russia's horrific war.

As we begin a new week, it's the 1,321st Daily Thread - never missed one yet. So let's dive-in..
Well it's been lively overnight in Russia, with many reports of Ukraine's drones causing problems.

You can see photos and video from those reports at the end of yesterday's thread, which began with more daytime strikes by Moscow's war criminals...

I'll start with the numbers as Ukraine launched more than twice as many drones as Russia overnight according to official defence figures.

Moscow says it downed 251 UAVs, while Kyiv reports 116 long range drones fired by Russia, of which 83 were stopped (72% success)> Image

Tuesday 30 September 2025 - it's Day 1315 of Russia's full invasion. That's 3 years, 7 months and one week of Ukraine trying to defend itself against an infinitely bigger army.

But Ukrainians have a just cause and the sum is much bigger than the parts.

Here's the daily thread:
A shorter thread yesterday, with not a lot of ground-breaking news. But still more than 30 posts, you may like to catch up on, such as Russia's moaning about its election interference in Moldova coming to nothing!

Yesterday I showed the remarkable downing of a Russian military helicopter by an FPV drone - the price disparity is also incredible.

That hit is included in today's table of Russia's losses during the war, but elsewhere numbers are a little lower. Image

Hello again everybody. Are we ready for Day 1311 of Ukraine's defence against the all-out invasion by a Kremlin horde? I know I am, so let's go.

Documenting all the important news, and Russian war crimes, every single day - still never missed one - this is THE daily thread:
You can almost smell the weekend approaching, but first let's look back at Thursday.

Another wide variety of stories, and what a contrast. Almost record numbers of likes on BSky yet way below par number of views here on X.
Review what you missed here:

Today let's start with some damage in Russia.

Ukraine's drones were probing various places during the night and found another way through to the Afipsky oil refinery.

The Krasnodar region continues to be a good hunting ground in recent days.

Good morning on Day 1310 of the full-scale war in Ukraine. But let's not forget Russia first invaded 11.5 years ago and the free world was too timid to defend a democracy from a tyrant, which led us to this position now after far too many wasted lives (and $)

Here's my daily🧵
Wednesday was another busy-busy day.
Too much to detail, just make sure you are up to date, but clicking and scrolling here, but remember to come back.

Russia has managed to attack railway infrastructure and some power targets overnight.

The latest is in Kirovohrad region, where 3 villages are without power after drone strikes. The city of Oleksandriya in the east of the region was heavily attacked.
There were no casualties.

Day 1305 began with a huge attack on Ukraine.

It's taken an incredible effort to maintain Ukraine's independence this long, but we still need to keep pressure up and keep aid flowing.

It's a marathon effort to research & post the news, please support🙏

Friday's thread had the first half of Russia's attack - before that we saw Ukraine's partners tightening sanctions, and Putin sending planes in to NATO territory to lead to another Article 4 discussion.

Loads more news too, catch up here if you missed it
First, the size of the morning attack on Ukraine..

Air defence did well, knocking out 583 projectiles, but that still left 36 hits in 10 places.

Ukraine stopped:
2/8 ballistics
29/32 cruise
552/579 drones (95% success)
