The level of #Russia's losses in the last 24 hours remains in line with recent days. Another 690 killed in #Ukraine and we remain on course for 200,000 in mid-May.
British Intel today comments on the figures. They are slightly behind the 8-ball because as readers here will know, the trend is slightly up again. But yes, down from the insane numbers when #Russia was launching non stop attacks with cannon fodder.
Friendly 🔥 this time in #Kirov. The local police captain decided to wash a patrol car while smoking. Soon bitumen caught fire and the whole garage went up in flames including 3 patrol cars.
The anti-hero received burns to his hands trying to put out the fire.
The @FT reports that the #EU and #Japan are against a complete ban on exports to #Russia. #USA had proposed the measure ahead of next month's G7 meeting in Hiroshima.
One has to wonder if #Russia flexing its naval muscles near Japan recently had any influence, while #Hungary...?
#Russia's MoD has accused #Ukraine of breaking the grain agreement.
It claims #Ukraine used the "grain corridor" to attack #Sevastopol yesterday (and a month before) with surface drones.
Seems the Russians are desperate to end the deal - the current one expires on 18 May.
#Ukraine's universities are booming - thanks in part to the desire to avoid a military call-up.
The Constitution allows students to defer conscription.
All student numbers are ⬆️40%, but for men aged 31-40 there's a 1,285% increase.
For men over 40 it's up 1,600%

It's been announced that the Pope will be heading to #Hungary this weekend.
During the 3 day trip he will meet with PM Viktor Orbán and talk about #Russia's horrific war in #Ukraine.
#Russia's state RIA Novosti news agency says they're using its new T-14 tanks for the first time.
However back in January, Britain's MoD said this would be purely for propaganda and pointed out the drawbacks of deploying the new and untrusted tanks in #Ukraine.
Another cemetery of #Wagner's dead has been found.
Taiga, one of the few remaining outlets to try to report the truth in #Russia, filmed this in #Novosibirsk
They say there are 200+ graves and many of the names on the crosses have not been reported killed before.
I'm not making this up, these are all from today.
Thanks Carolynn for finding some of these.
In #Sverdlovsk Oblast they certainly seem short of firefighters. This was daytime in the village of #Sosva but it looks like night as numerous houses burn.
A 75 year old volunteer from #Spain has been locked up in #Russia for over a year.
Mariano García Calatayud was captured in #Kherson during a protest against Russia's occupation in March 2022. Occupiers finally admit the pensioner's being held in #Crimea
1/3 So Trump has, crucially, for the first time, allowed US weapons to go to Ukraine, so it is a step forward. And while no specifics, let's hope the best long-range weapons are to be given.
But no confirmation about the U.S. using Russia's frozen assets in favour of Ukraine.
So why a special day?
@generalkellogg has arrived in Kyiv to convey expected good news.
The sanctions guys - @LindseyGrahamSC + @SenBlumenthal meet with @SecGenNATO + Trump later, with the US President virtually confirming sanctions and releasing Patriot air defence systems:
It may be Sunday, but no rest!

So Russia is currently 1233 days behind schedule in its expectation to control Kyiv.
I've documented it here every day. Saturday had some more blatant Russian war crimes, starting with more death and destruction.
If you were away from screens, catch up⬇️
Starting with breaking news as Ukraine has announced it has killed the assassins of an Intel officer gunned down in broad daylight in Kyiv a few days ago.
Intel boss Vasyl Malyuk says a special Russian FSB/combat group murdered Col Ivan Voronych.
Hello again and welcome to the weekend and another daily thread. All the important Ukraine news, fact-checked, every single day (never missed one yet).
It's Day 1235 and signs that Russia is becoming increasingly desperate. Let's begin:
Don't know about you, but I was up most of the night documenting another huge Russian attack.
If you missed it, you can catch up on that, as well as the rest of Friday's news by clicking here for the start of yesterday's thread:
23 missiles + almost 600 drones flew from Russia overnight, trying to destroy Ukraine's infrastructure, culture & people.
Air defence did well, shooting down 25 of 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles.
Of 597 attack UAVs, 319 were shot down, another 258 stopped via EW, or decoy drones.
Day 1233 of a war that's the biggest threat to the future stability of the lives of every person reading this.
The root cause is extremist, imperialist and anti-democratic forces being allowed to wage war unchecked. Ukraine in the firing line today, but who's next? Here's the🧵
Another very difficult night for Ukraine, especially Kyiv, with more deaths now confirmed in the capital.
It was a second successive very long and loud night for many. To bring yourself up to date on all yesterday's news, click the link:
