Day 466 of the daily thread covering the #UkraineRussianWar begins here.
All the news and analysis, throughout the day and night - looks like little sleep again tonight as it's believed #Russia has fired cruise missiles, currently an hour away from hitting #Ukraine.
Also hearing now that cruise-missile laden ships are in the launch zone in the Black Sea. This is not uncommon, but #Russia's current tactic of a mixed missile attack increases the likelihood of ships being involved.
Estimated time of arrival of rockets: 03:10 Kyiv time.
There have been a couple of drones flying over #Ukraine, but in the southern region of #Mykolaiv they say they've shot down all of the UAVs, without stating how many.
No reports of damage.
Reminder, we still don't know if #Russia's Caspian Sea missile launch is genuine or fake.
One missile was hit in #Kropyvynytskyi but there were later reports of explosions nearer the centre of the city. It may have been air defence.
Explosions in #Crimea now confirmed by one reliable media group in #Russia.
The invaders' army is saying it was "an unknown drone" which was shot down in #Dzhankoy.
Despite the alleged success of air defence, "several private houses have been damaged."
In #Sumy some locals say they can hear explosions. I don't think any ballistic missiles remain, so could be a drone or shelling. Sumy region gets hit every single day somewhere.
Maybe I shouldn't use the hashtag; it's nothing to do with the war as far as I know. But in #Russia's second city of #StPetersburg a huge brawl erupted.
It seems to be between workers + those in civilian clothes. Police deny knowing anything despite sirens heard!
This looks much better!
Air raid warnings are cancelled in #Kyiv region and all central and western states.
The capital itself always a little slower to give the all-clear as drones can evade radars for longer in big cities with many high-rise buildings.
Explosions in occupied #Donetsk.
No further details yet.
It remains to be seen how many missiles were fired and if they had active warheads. But the psychological torture continues from #Russia and sleep-deprivation is one of their weapons.
Almost time for sleep for me too...
One more story I had to share of #Russia's incompetence - and this is from a pro-🇷🇺 channel in #Crimea.
A house completely burned down. It shoudn't have done but one fire truck couldn't get there and the other had no water! There are only 2 fire trucks in the whole region🤡🤡
Updating details from the overnight attacks.
First, the feared news that a 2 year old girl's body was found in the rubble in #Dnipro where #Russia's missiles hit residential houses.
In the later attack, six air based cruise missiles were launched above the Caspian Sea by #Russia's bombers.
Four were shot down, with both the other two hitting an airfield in #Kropyvnytskyi (RU: #Kirovograd)
Damage has not been specified.
3 drones were also taken down.
UPD
I deleted the previous post as new details came in from #Sumy which was hit by #Russia's attack drones overnight.
The Shaheds hit the border community of Seredyno-Budsk . An agriculture company, workshops, private cars and a park were all damaged.
No casualties reported.
The "Liberty of Russia Legion" have published a new video of ongoing battles in #Belgorod region.
The rebels state active fighting continues around Novaya Tavolzhanka in the #Shebekinsky district.
First let's look at why there are much lower excess death increases in say, Bulgaria and Romania than other nations.
Simple fact is these two countries have the worst life expectancy/most deaths in the EU, the fewest old people. Therefore any increase is likely to be lower.
3/ It should be pointed out excess deaths are falling significantly in early 2023.
There are many good graphs and explainers in this report. 100% proof in there that vaccinated people are NOT dying more than unvaxed.
Good morning, welcome to Daily Thread number 465 covering #Ukraine's heroic defence against #Russia's illegal aggression.
I've been here from (before) the start of war, reporting on (sometimes from) a country I've loved, worked + lectured in many, many times.
Overnight was quiet
Before we get stuck in to today's news, a gentle reminder these threads are basically an unpaid full time job - actually more than that as you get days off with a job! Coffee donations welcome (link in Bio)
A few drones buzzed #Ukraine yesterday evening but air raids did not last long and no damage was reported.
The drone/cruise missile numbers on #Russia's daily losses are high as they include Friday morning's attacks.
Artillery, special equipment & fuel tanks way above average
Day 464 of #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine starts with another horrendous wait to see if air defence can protect them as cruise missiles head towards them as I type.
This is THE daily thread with all the news of the brutal war in one place, updated all day (and night!)
So much happened yesterday - here's the link to the start of Thursday's thread.
Deaths from #Russia's missiles because shelters were locked #Crimea bridge falling down?
Big explosions in #Belgorod + #Kursk regions and the rebel Russian units attack again

In the first few hours of this special day, an 11 year old child was killed, murdered by #Russia's missiles, along with two adults in their 30s.
