A brief note on opinion: If you look at a cat and say, "In my opinion that's an iPhone" that's not an opinion that's just you being wrong.
The problem is if your dumb ass can get three other dumbasses to AGREE the cat is an iPhone then suddenly we all have to have "discourse."
And then come the thinkpieces. "ARE Cats Really iPhones?" "Why Telling People Who Think Cats Are iPhones They're Wrong Isn't the Answer"
So now an objective fact is treated nationally as a subjective question because a few stubborn, ignorant assholes formed a consensus.
So instead of addressing the real issue...you're an ignorant pissant who thinks cats are iPhones...we wither into the oblivion of discourse.
Because Americans are taught their opinions and their right to them are more important than facts. They're not. FUCK your opinion.
And yes, I'm talking about Trump supporters but I'm also talking about literally everything because this is a root problem in our culture.
Racism. We don't discuss racism, we discuss what the word "racist" means with racist people whose "opinion" is they're not racist.
It's not just discourse or discussion that gets derailed by indulging patent falsity presented as opinion, it's evolution.
Facts aren't dangerous. Facts are just information. Opinions can be lethal especially when the malicious weaponize the ignorance of the dim.
Weaponized ignorance is THE cultural weapon. It props up every ugly evil destructive institutionally fucked practice we have.
And it starts with cultivating the idea opinion and belief are equally if not more important than facts. They. Are. Not.
We have to stop giving people who are objectively wrong equal footing just because there are a lot of them. Again, root fucking cause, that.
Like, my head literally hurts right now. It so fucking absurd, even surreal the shit we give merit because enough people believe it.
You can have all the opinions you want on how broccoli tastes. I don't give a shit. But policy can't be based on opinion. That needs to die.
