So I finally read the GST thing and decided that business is not a viable idea for me/small online. I'll spend more on paperwork than I earn
Therefore game over for soaps and carnivorous plants buying online. Come home & I'll sell locally. 20 lakh sales out of question, so no GST.
I hid behind my lack of comprehension for long, because it didn't make sense to register for GST if you sell even a single thing online.
But I wasn't lack of comprehending, GST is built to kill small online players. I don't even sell worth 5k a month - hobbyist. Not worth it.
Or I would be forced to rent a place and scale up and hire staff and what not to be viable. Not interested.

cc @sonaliranade you'd asked.
Absurdity of the GST jumla is that if I sell offline, I can sell worth 20 lakh without any problem at all. Only creating online monopolies.
But I suppose you can buy me things I covet and I can gift you things I make that you want ;)
Whichever idiot designed GST - it is designed to kill MSME and make India produce less and import more.
No wonder Alibaba owner was celebrating. GST pretty much guarantees that Aliexpress type "anything under the sun" manufacturing won't happen
If you are not certain your product has enough demand to go through the circus for online, dropping it is cheaper. Don't experiment.
This pretty much means game over for people doing obscure, creative things that enrich and add knowledge, but aren't big sellers.
Most places that make handmade soaps won't have local buyers that afford them. Carnivorous plants are niche interest. Local nursery unviable
CPs to forget it. I'll be surprised if a single nursery survives GST - not enough sales nationwide to make profit. Hobbyist led area.
But what is lost in making them extinct? Today you have to buy seeds of plants originating in India from abroad. Habitats too decreasing.
Maybe a few Indians could buy plants acclimatized to India and keep them alive. But spend thousands more than income to do it legally? Nope.
But what I will definitely do is keep the shop area on the site as a display only area for what I am up to. No selling because GST.
This was possible, is not happening by govt policy.
Post announcing this officially on my blog from where I used to sell "stuff"
