1/ Friend of mine just spent 48 hours in Puerto Rico. Some of his thoughts, which he said I could share, follow:
2/"Despite the chaos of no electricity, little water, lines for gas, food, cash machines and virtually everything else..."
3/ ...the people of Puerto Rico "are positive, optimistic and determined to rebuild and make Puerto Rico a better place."
4/ "That energy will rapidly be sapped if signs of progress do not come soon and continue consistently & massively for many months to come"
5/ "Despite seeing several US government planes on the tarmac at the airport when we arrived and some army vehicles unloading them,..."
6/"..during nearly 7 hours on motorcycle visiting 6 towns around metro area I did not see a single army/national guard uniform/transport"
6/"I saw 1 gas truck & not a single container truck moving supplies anywhere. I did see plenty of PR Policemen and women directing traffic"
7/"...where needed, partic. around gas stations, few retailers/banks that are open and areas that might cause danger to drivers/pedestrians"
8/"I do not know where those delivering Federal and NGO assistance were, but they were not at all visible from my perspective."
9/"This was an emotional few days where sadness of the reality gripping the island & the frustration w/the lack of an adequate response..."
