Today is a good day for men to have conversations about how patriarchy disenfranchises them. How it punishes men for being emotional, laughs at men for being victims, lashes out at queer men, traps men of colour. How it strips men of hope, options, expression.
It’s a good day to talk about male role models whose gifts aren’t just showing men how to be confident or brave, but how to be emotional, how to be open, how to reject hostility & stoicism in favor of availability & self-awareness.
It’s a good day to ask why men aren’t talking about themselves, why we haven’t yet shaken the assumption that being aware of our feelings is a sign of weakness.
It’s a good day to ask how men can be stewards of their male relationships, walk their friends back from homophobia, rape culture, & violence, toward something healthier and more conscious of the self and others.
But it isn’t a good day to presume that women have it better off. It isn’t a good day to say that men have ‘lost’ because Star Wars: TFA or some shite.
