I think t is because white people dont want to believe that white supremacy is an actual problem. They don’t get the systemic problem.
They hear “white supremacy,” and think of crosses and hoods, and think that stuff is dead and gone. But they don’t get that stuff is not a disease but rather a symptom.
Like, I’m a white dude, cishet, Christian enough to claim it - I was born into a world where I am the cultural default. I was born into a world that was organized to facilitate my success. I didn’t ask for or have any control over it - it just is.
This is what white supremacy really is, creating a world where my comfort/success is paramount at the expense of others. It’s baked into society, it’s the underpinnings, the rebar in the concrete.
A lot of white people dont want to really confront that because they don’t really want to believe it to be true. Or at least don’t really understand how to process their level of culpability in these systems.
Moreover, now one knows they are culpable, now how do you fix it? I genuinely believe that mist people do want to create a more equitable society - until it encroaches on their own comforts or their perceived future comfort of their children.
Breaking down those psychic barriers (which are almost always far far worse than reality) is the biggest hurdle to cross.
