1. The Misinformer of the Year for 2017 is Mark Zuckerberg mediamatters.org/blog/2017/12/2…
2. Every year, @mmfa designates the media figure, news outlet, or organization which stands out for promoting lies and smears in the U.S. media as Misinformer of the Year.
3. Past designees include Rupert Murdoch, Bill O'Reilly, and Sean Hannity.
4. Last year, we gave it to the fake news infrastructure. Twelve months later, too little has changed in the United States, and fake news has infected democracies around the world
5. Zuckerberg wanted to turn Facebook into the "personalized newspaper" for people around the world.
6. It worked. Facebook is now the most powerful media company there is.
7. But Zuckerberg and Facebook never don't want accept what that means. They are responsible for the information infrastructure they have created.
8. At every turn, they've chosen to do as little as they thought they needed in order to forestall PR crises and government responses.
9. At times -- as it did when they fired their human editors in response to a conservative uproar -- that actively made the problem worse.
10. Now the very people who helped build Facebook are warning that it is helping to tear the world apart.
11. Mark Zuckerberg built a platform to connect people that has become an incredibly powerful tool to divide them with misinformation
