Here's a little SU&SD trivia for the weekend. Have you ever seen a bit of vivid green outside Quinns' window?
Ring-necked parakeets nest in the trees right outside! These cheery parrots eat fruits, nuts and seeds and make a noise like "SQUEAK!"

The species is found all over south London, but the best part is, we don't know how they got here.
The most likely theory is that the "great storm" that hit the United Kingdom in 1987 wrecked a number of aviaries.

The more fun story is that a prop manager released them after the filming of The African Queen near London in 1951.
However they got here, they're very welcome. We've just discovered that they don't impact the environment, but they do nuzzle each other throughout frosty winters. Aww.
