Here’s a thread about insecure little boys with big platforms who wet their sailor suits when a woman dares to express an opinion.
Economics is one of the last hyper-masculinised academic disciplines, and it’s overrun by crusty conservative men unable to see past their own vested interests.
When a woman with *gasp* an opinion, like @albericie, dares to speak against their “conventional economic wisdom” any pretence that they possess critical thinking abandons them and they start to channel their daddies telling mummy to shut up make dinner.
It doesn’t matter that trickle down (or “horse and sparrow”) economics has been debated for 200 years. What matters is a woman has an opinion that doesn’t match the worldview of the conservative economic journalist manchild.
Take Aaron Patrick, the church mouse from the Fin Review - mild mannered in the streets, raging sexist between the sheets - who artfully managed to turn his description of Emma as “a woman of considerable self-belief” into a pejorative
and then said economics is “arguably beyond the competence of Lateline's last host”
Chris Mitchell, the most self-important man in Australia, accused her of having “little understanding of economics and business”.
David Watkins and Cedric Hodges, 2 Deloittes pinheads with a lot of feels about trickle down economics don’t want to hear from Emma because this is “a serious subject that deserves serious analysis”
Joe Aston from the Fin Review, that insecure man-baby sitting in his high-chair banging away on his Fisher-Price typewriter, says she’s “innumerate” and her article was “egregious and error riddled” although he hasn’t been able to find any actual errors.
Even Malcolm Turnbull, our freshly minted feminist and champion of high moral standards, said poor Emma was “confused” by economics
I swear the only way to top this manfest would be to hear Scott Morrison call her a silly girl.
Meanwhile, a conga-line of “serious man journalists” have *for decades* written the same arguments as Emma and, funnily enough, none of them has been described as innumerate, confused, or incompetent.
