Here's a short article by trainer Vern Gabetta on "meaningful" practice. [A word he deems more exact relative to "deliberative"].

This quote explains what meaningful practice is NOT:
"Mindless repetition does not count as practice. If you want examples go watch a typical tennis academy practice where they hit balls for four hours or watch a baseball infielder take 100 ground balls repetitively. That is the norm just look around, nothing meaningful, just work.
I agree. As I have said many times, I would much rather see a hitting I am working with, work for 10 minutes with a VERY pronounced focus and awareness on what I have given them as a specific drill on a particular flaw.
As opposed to swinging for an hour with nothing but a vague awareness as to what they either need to focus on, or what they are ACTUALLY doing in terms of loading/unloading movements during that hour.

As regards the context of the exercise "stuff" I filmed in Orlando: My long experience with both pitchers and hitters is that most do NOT really physically understand how to rotate the trunk/utilize the legs in a manner that facilitates the "whip effect."
Years ago, I began to label this as a "rotational deficit." The reasons for this functional deficit are numerous but one main reason is simple: Most have practiced movement that occur in "sagittal space" [running,walking, jumping] vastly more than moving in the transverse plane.
Vital to high level throwing and swinging is the ability to create rapid/well sequenced rotation of the trunk [hips to scapular complex]. These exercises that I have spent 15 years developing are specifically designed for learning how to develop this kind of movement.

Someone asked as to whether or not swing quickness is trainable. It can and it is certainly a large part of what/how why/ I teach what I teach. One aspect of quickness that I do not think is well understood is the STABILITY component.
Stated simply,all dynamic movement is a function of a series of rapid joint interactions in which some joints are mobile and others are very stable [or should be!].
The stability component is critical in that if certain joints are unstable, this can vastly effect the ability to quickly change direction, accelerate the body mass,etc.

The following quote essentially about what's known as the "rate of force development" --quickness in a word --comes from trainer Dietrich Buchenholz--using Barry Bonds as the frame of reference:
"Watching a living immortal like Barry Bonds hit and you know what ,I'm talking about. The ball looks like it's almost past his front knee before he even thinks about swinging. The critical factor isn't his 95 mph bat speed- lots of guys do that..."
.."the critical factor is his ability to go from 0 to 95 quicker than most of us humans can blink an eyelash!" [And the blink of an eye reference is a good one in that this is LITERALLY all the time MLB hitters have to unload].

This is indeed correct.

Statehood is truly hardball politics. By simply passing a federal law---bare majorities in the House and Senate, plus the signature of POTUS, you can irreversibly create a state and alter the electoral composition of both Congress and the electoral college.
Right now, assuming they were willing to use the nuclear option to abolish the filibuster for state admissions, the GOP could make Puerto Rico or DC a state or (with the consent of the state leg) divide Texas (or Wyoming) into any number of states. WIth just a law. Irreversibly.

It's tax time so I'm seeing a lot of stressful tweets from freelancer friends. No one gets into freelance art to crunch numbers, but managing that income is part of the job.

Everyone's situation is different, but here are some broad suggestions to help you out in the future:
1) Start a separate bank account just for tax money. When you deposit your checks or receive automatic deposits, make it a habit to shift over at least 30% of that income to the tax account and DON'T TOUCH IT. It's not your money (yet). Leave it alone if at all possible.
2) Keeping track of business-related expenses can be a pain, but it's a crucial to saving money:
Equipment, software, reference material, business meals, travel, all of it.

If you're not tracking business expenses you're paying way more than you should.

I'm afraid science doesn't show that at all. Humans aren't sexually dimorphic, and sexologists, biologists, anthropologists, neuroscientists, and geneticists have recognised a diversity of gender and sex categories for decades. Binary sex/gender is a recent Western invention.
Most cultures have recognised some form of multiplicitous gender categorisation. There is plenty of work on this in sociology, anthropology, history, and gender studies, but you have to remember that academia is not unaffected by social power structures including colonialism.
Often (Western) anthropology refers to "third gender/sex" but this really isn't accurate - there are many cultures that have recognised 4, 5, 7, or more gender categories. Here is a huge list of multiplicitous gender categories in Native American cultures: ncai.org/policy-researc…
