The special cut with Popuko & Pipimi blowing up the building of the series' publisher Takeshobo needed the best treatment possible, so they got Naoki Yoshibe aka yotube to direct/animate/paint the sequence, since he's the strongest FX animator affiliated with the studio.
It was always his target (lol)
The effects morphing into faces is a gimmick he's used before but it's perfect with these cursed kids.
In the end no one can accuse the Pop Team Epic anime of not living up to its promises

Can you imagine if there were multiple reports of unpaid work - especially exploiting the vulnerable position of overseas workers - AND of consistently inhuman working schedules for production assistants for the same major anime studio, just a couple days from each other.

Wait.
The latter's a well-documented tragedy for the industry as a whole, but I'm wondering if I should put together a list of anime studios with... dodgy payment records, let's say. I've heard enough private reports & others from trustworthy creators to shame a bunch of studios.
Anonymity would be required of course. The reason these don't get openly reported all that often is because no one wants to be perceived as a troublesome worker, as immensely fucked up as that is. When specifics are made public the sources tend to be veterans allowed not to care.

The latest episode of Mahou Shoujo Ore is in line with the irreverent tone of the series, but it's basically a standalone scathing critique of the state of the anime industry. It's actually ruthless.
It goes all the way putting the whole industry on blast & Pierrot (Plus) in particular - the whole thing is about rushing an episode to calm down one of their production supervisors so that it doesn't rampage and destroy all of anime.
In theory you couldn't pull this off unsupervised, but the director (who's also the sole writer, main storyboarder, pretty much the anime's father) deleted his account just today before it aired so you have to wonder...

But hey it's fiction.

Last night was talking to a neighbor in a bad spot. She said ‘I hate that I was that way, I’m not a bad person but now everyone thinks I am’. I said I didn’t think so, that I knew she was upset & was actually better than her actions but that after a while you are what you do...

So I was talking to @gewt about Job: A Comedy of Justice and I came up with a theory that I think explains why Heinlein's late-period work is so kinda-terrible and why I still enjoy it so much
So Heinlein had always been very interesting in the short parts of his novels, like the little snippets inside chapters. He had a very fun writing style, and wrote some fun dialogue with fun characters, right?>
It probably comes from how much of his early stuff was short fiction
And I think what happened with a lot of his longer works is that he'd just start writing fun bits and hope it would end up going somewhere or having a bigger plot by the end. like eventually he'd figure out where this was going, then go back and rewrite it into a cohesive whole

THREAD showing evidence I've come across that suggests the recent murder of a young Jewish man in California was committed by a neo-Nazi, possibly as a politically motivated killing. (Sat on this for a week waiting on editors but now bits of the info are already out, so fuck it).
On January 2nd a 19-year-old Jewish man went missing in southern California. He turned up dead on Jan 9th, buried in a shallow grave in Borrego Park (wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=3…). A former class-mate was arrested on suspicion of the murder on Jan 12th.
The deceased is Blaze Bernstein and the suspected killer--now charged with the murder--is Sam Woodward, 20. (Referred to here on out as Blaze and Sam). See the next tweet for the LA Times story.
