I don't use containers during the development phase. I develop locally on my machine and integrate with remote APIs, databases, and services through configuration.
I maintain a Dockerfile which is used to build container images as part of my CI/CD flow and make it easy for others to build and deploy.
I'm a firm believer that applications should not rely on containers in order to work correctly. Containers are just a packaging and deployment mechanism.

Given the combination of the Lambda Runtime API and Lambda Layers I no longer believe adding support for containers would add any additional benefit to Lambda.
The Lambda Runtime API provides a major benefit over containers for Serverless workloads: a well defined and opinionated runtime API for getting work done.

The more time I spend writing Serverless functions the more I understand why the container image is overkill.
The only valid use for a Serverless container image is to workaround limited language support for a given platform.
I wanted a container image due to lack of transparency. This is something that FaaS providers can address by open sourcing their function wrappers and documenting their execution environments.

If you breakdown Serverless into two parts: “use managed services for everything” and “use a pay per use code execution environment”, you may find FaaS isn’t the only valid compute option in a Serverless architecture.
If Heroku, AppEngine, or Fargate offered the same pricing model as Lambda, while eliminating the side effects of scaling to zero, would we consider them suitable replacements in Serverless architectures?

Hiring is always hard. It does get easier over time, but it's always something you have to work super hard at. If you're not ready to put in really hard work, you won't be successful hiring.

Don't hire too early! Why not?
1. 😩 Hiring is hard & slow. Skip it as long as you can.
2. 💸 People cost $$$
3. ✅ Do the job yourself first. You'll be better at hiring for the role once you have.
4. 🚀 Small team = fast & nimble
