Help me make a list of things that work really well when you have a #remote team?

It’s not that one person who is remote. The whole team is remote. Treat inteactions that way.

When you dial in to calls, make sure you’re well lit from the front. You’re not a witness in a criminal case.

Get a good microphone. Record yourself saying something and listen back to it. It’s awkward, but you should be heard properly.

When you’re sharing your screen in a hangout, just say “you should now be seeing my screen” rather than “can you see my screen?”.

That small difference makes it all flow smoother.

Keep trying new things to make the remote experience better for everyone. Hypothesise and experiment. Learn fast. Adapt. I.e. the usual.

So you wanna work from home?

It’s now your professional responsibility to get the best damned internet connection money can buy. Seriously.

Pay attention to people. Do 👏 not 👏 cmd+tab 👏 while 👏 they’re 👏 talking.

Let people know where you are. Put a message on slack when you’re out to lunch.

Try having a coffee break together. Get the same snacks and chat about your hobbies.

If possible, meet in person at least once.

Try tools like @MURAL or @realtimeboard for collaboration, voting, retros etc.
