I am genuinely bothered and disturbed at how morally wrong it is for the Google Assistant voice to act like a human and deceive other humans on the other line of a phone call, using upspeek and other quirks of language. "Hi um, do you have anything available on uh May 3?" #io18

In this age of disinformation, where people don't know what's fake news... how do you know what to believe if you can't even trust your ears with now Google Assistant calling businesses and posing as a human? That means any dialogue can be spoofed by a machine and you can't tell.
Google Duplex sounds so real guys.

1 - Speech recognition technology often gets labeled as == "conversational". That's incorrect and misleading. Being able to identify the parts of the human anatomy is necessary to be a doctor, but doesn't enable understanding of how bodies work and don't.
2 - Recognition identifies words and phrases. It does not understand the context and define the meaning that the words and phrases represent. It can't. This is why vocabulary and comprehension are both taught in schools.

1. First, I have never seen or heard a single Hadith barraged with these Hadith terms. “Shazi, munkar, da’if, and karya (maudu’i)”. We have a new Ibn Salah…..Ibn Salah of Twitter.
2. Let me revisit the simple definitions of these terms. I won’t be so technical just simple English. When we say Hadith is Shaaz/Shaadh, it is a Hadith reported by a trustworthy person but goes against the narration of a person more reliable than him.

NEW: 14 leading human rights groups are uniting to demand that Google cancel its China censored search engine plan, which they say would amount to the company "actively participating" in repression of dissent across the country: theintercept.com/2018/08/28/goo…
The groups have issued the call in a letter to Google CEO @SundarPichai. The letter says the censored search is “an alarming capitulation by Google on human rights” that could result in the company “directly contributing to, or [becoming] complicit in, human rights violations.”
The letter has been signed by: @AccessNow, @Amnesty, @article19org, @CenDemTech, @pressfreedom, @EFF, @hrichina, @hrw, @icpc_eng, @ISHRglobal, @pen_int, @privacyint, @RSF_en, & @witnessorg.

I wonder how many spinal taps I've had in my life. It should be ZERO based on my waking life. But now I know they took my CSF. I have a particular memory of a ritual when my mother is there, I was 16, she told me "Whatever you do don't look & remember to open the purple envelope"
When I was young & would go to the doctor, if I was going to receive a shot or they were going to take blood (aka a needle was present), she would say "Whatever you do, just don't look." Thus, this memory involves a needle & given all the elements I remember, it was a spinal tap.
Also, the "remember to open the purple envelope" is a mind control trigger, just like "Whatever you do don't look" - it is a code that initiates a forget program. When I ran, she sent me a card in a purple envelope that said "I'm happy my memories come easily to me" 6 times. Hmmm

Google Assistant making calls pretending to be human not only without disclosing that it's a bot, but adding "ummm" and "aaah" to deceive the human on the other end with the room cheering it... horrifying. Silicon Valley is ethically lost, rudderless and has not learned a thing.
That the many in Google did not erupt in utter panic and disgust at the first suggestion of this... is incredible to me. What of Google's famed discussion boards? What are you all discussing if not this?!?! This is horrible and so obviously wrong. SO OBVIOUSLY WRONG. *headdesk*
As digital technologies become better at doing human things, the focus has to be on how to protect humans, how to delineate humans and machines, and how to create reliable signals of each—see 2016. This is straight up, delilberate deception. Not okay.

A dictatorship -- Saudi Arabia's King Salman -- is bombing its next door neighbor -- Yemen. And not paying much attention to where those bombs land. (2/x)
Our own U.S. government has supplied bombs, cluster bombs, jet fuel, and intelligence to Saudi Arabia in its war.

When Saudi jets fly to Yemen to drop their bombs -- THEY GET REFUELED ON THE WAY BY THE U.S. AIR FORCE.
