Banks in Nigeria never close bank accounts especially if it is a corporate account. They might tell you that they have, but they really don't. To be sure, insist on getting a letter of closure and a statement showing that the balance is zero and the last movement is a closure ref
The reason why this is important is that while u think ur account is closed, it's rather accumulating charges. A debit bal will then attract default interest of upto 45%. In a few years, it can be millions in debit. Shd you need a bank line, you'll need to clear that debit first.
People and corporations need to be aware that there are many credit bureau in Nigeria operated by the CBN - CRMS and other private ones like XDS and CRC. They are recipients of your credit history. If you have a loan, they receive monthly status update as provided by your banks.
No credit in Nigeria can be approved without clearance from at least two of these bureau. It doesn't mean you can obtain loans if you have existing loans, but if a loan is said to be "non-performing", you need to get clear the debit and get your bank to update it to "performing".
This is why ensuring that you've properly closed accounts in very important. If you know that you've some old accts that u no longer use maybe in banks like FBN, UBN & UBA, please walk to the bank or get someone to do a name search for u so you can know the status of that account
*I don't mean you can't....
