Nak sembang tentang official documents, I am not that smart. But since 284 boxes of luxury bags have been confiscated let me just say this is a subject I can talk about.

So let's clear some misconceptions about these bags --->
The news reports show trolleys full of these orange boxes. These are Hermes brand boxes.

First thing to get right.

Hermes is the brand e.g. Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, Gucci etc.

While there may be other luxury brands confiscated, pictures are only showing these orange boxes
This is an example of an Hermes box. The large boxes hold handbags. Boxes for Hermes bags are very large, because they are made to protect the precious cargo within.

You need a lot of buffer space so the bags are not squeezed. Also it is padded with tissue
Next misconception - Birkin is not a brand.

Birkin is a STYLE of bag under the Hermes brand. It denotes the bag with 2 handles, and a lock as you see in the picture here.

Rosmah has displayed a particular fondness for this style and from what I can see, has many in many colours
So the proper way to label these bags would be "Hermes Birkin bag". They are at the pinnacle of luxury and prices range from US$11000 to US$350000 depending on the leather used, precious metals & stones etc.

Also some vintage ones are very costly.
For example, Rosmah here sports a Hermes Birkin in Himalaya model. This model is very rare & has fetched over US$379000.

Different luxury bag brands have different colours for their boxes. Thus far, I've only seen the orange boxes. I have seen her sport the odd LV and Prada. I haven't seen her sport many other brands.
Hermes Birkins are notoriously hard to get hold of. Perhaps she gets special attention due to her status. Perhaps they are gifts from people who want/were given favours.

What I can tell is that she has a sizeable collection that can likely sell well at an international auction
Long & short of this rambly thread is this:

Reporters, please get your terminology right. A Birkin is an Hermes, but an Hermes is not a Birkin. There are many other styles. Also, a Birkin is not a separate brand.

Just nitpicking :)

/fin
Also, there is no more "waiting list" for the Birkin, Kelly or any Hermes bags. You just have to spend a shit-ton at Hermes before you are offered, or be connected, or be pally with them.

It is still very hard to get hold of, but realistically, it is possible if you can afford
Oh and since you've learned something, might as well start "menabung dari kecil" because a Hermes Birkin bag is a better investment than stocks or gold! 😅

By popular request this is how you pronounce Hermès - ehr-mes (French) or air-mess (English)

Never HER-mes. Never Herms. Never.

Hear it here: howdoyousaythatword.com/word/hermes/

A Birkin is ber-kin. Inspired by and named for model Jane Birkin, released in 1982/1984.
