As black men, we know that any movement we might make could mean an immediate death sentence for us.
There’s no reason why this parking violation required this level of police involvement. These officers saw a black man with too nice of a car & suspected something else was up.

Some officers want to look at black men and think we automatically “fit the description” of a criminal. Some assume the worst about us b/c of what we wear. Why can’t we be looked upon as fitting the description of a successful business man or successful pro basketball player
While y’all are worried abt the national anthem,you neglect to address the brutality that people of color are experiencing in Milwaukee & all over America. It would be nice for America to be as concerned w the treatment of black folks by law enforcement as they are about kneeling
If this attack on #SterlingBrown’s by several of the Milwaukee Police Department hadn’t been caught on camera, it would’ve been his word against theirs & we’ve seen time & time again that officers are given more favor in that regard.
The ONLY reason that the Milwaukee Police have apologized is because this heinous attack was caught on video & the victim, #SterlingBrown, is famous. Black men have been brutalized, or worse (Dontre Hamilton) by some of MPD for far too long.
Bad cops make the jobs of good cops that much more difficult. We cannot have a police department that allows or enables this kind of despicable behavior to go unpunished. When you’re supposed to protect and serve, that doesn’t include brutalization.
Im glad that the Milwaukee @Bucks put out a strong statement of support for #SterlingBrown & acknowledged many injustices communities of color have endured. Its heartwarming to know that this organization stands with Sterling & stands with our community nba.com/bucks/news/buc…
To protect & serve us, the Milwaukee Police can start by valuing our lives & seeing us black men, not as a threat but as the human beings that we are. Want to help keep our communities safe? Then see us as the men & women that are as much a part of the American fabric as you.
