I’m at BLM Plaza, where a contingent of anti-Trump protesters with shields and umbrellas are preparing to march. They’re heading to McPherson Sq to meet another group that was recently rushed by a group of Proud Boys. I could hear fireworks shoot off from blocks away. #DCprotests This is the police line at BLM Plaza, which is still blocked off between H and Eye St. The fence defenders are playing “Welcome to DC” and hanging tight as fireworks and other explosions continue to burst to the east. #DCprotests

NEW: The Park Service issued permits for pro-Trump rallies in #DC on Sat. One, organized by the Women for America First group behind last month’s rally, will gather in Freedom Plaza & expects 15,000 protesters. The other, smaller one near the Washington Monument estimates 500. The Freedom Plaza demonstration — the “March for Trump” —will again include a march to the Supreme Court and a “group YMCA” performance. Among the list of speakers: recently pardoned Gen. Michael Flynn.

I’m in downtown #DC. The streets around the White House are full of people w/ Trump flags, Texas flags, “come and take” my guns flags, thin blue line flags & more. Chants of “four more years” echo from Freedom Plaza. A man on a bike rode past shouting, “No more Nazis!” #dcprotest Outside SCOTUS, a large crowd of Trump supporters have arrived, surrounding local antifascist protesters on three sides with flags. The police are standing in between as Trump supporters chant “fuck Antifa” and the black-clad counterprotesters shout: “You lost!” #dcprotests

Out in front of the Supreme Court, where protesters are gathering to oppose the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who will face the first day of confirmation hearings today in the Senate. Many are in plastic coveralls, masks and gloves — a nod to the still-raging pandemic. It’s a small crowd, about 50 people now, as they begin to chant: “No covid test, no hearing!” #DCProtests #SCOTUS

“Black lives matter!” the crowd is chanting in unison in front of the Justice Center in downtown #Portland. This even after Gov. Brown announced earlier today that the feds might be leaving town — and the crowd keeps coming. #PDXprotests Back in the 1990s, #Portland earned the nickname “Little Beirut” after protests erupted in the city every time George H.W. Bush came to visit. Today, faced with a different Republican president who has called Portland “worse than Afgananistan,” this #PDX native has this to say 👇🏽

Back for another huge protest night in downtown #Portland, where many hundreds are apparently marching to a nearby hotel, where it is believed the federal reinforcements have been staying. #PortlandProtests #pdx So, apparently Oregon has a protest llama named Ceasar, “the no-drama llama,” who has been to 10 #BlackLivesMatter protests before tonight. Folks in the crowd are saying “stay by the llama and we won’t get gassed!” I hope they’re right! #PortlandProtests #KeepPortlandWeird

Every night, the #WallofMoms gathers by the river before marching over to the Justice Center. Every night, this group has grown. This video doesn’t begin to do justice to how many ppl are here. Yellow shirted moms. Nurses in scrubs. Dads in orange. And so, so many more. #portland Getting ready to march. There are drums, cowbells, a whole percussion section to keep the beat. And we have a new bloc in the mix tonight: Teachers. They’re wearing green. #PortlandProtests #PDX

The #PortlandMoms are back out and headed toward the Justice Center. Many have been here through tear gas and flash bangs and more. One longtime activist and mom out here said, “Hey, Trump wanted a wall. Well, look, he got a wall of moms!” #PDXprotest Rumor has it that #Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler may come out to tonight’s demonstration. The protesters — who have been calling for police reform for months — have prepared a list of demands. It’s projected onto the side of the Justice Center, which includes the county jail. #PDX

Back out at BLM Plaza as a mix of tourists, Trump supporters and protesters mill around on this hot July 4.

The tents police cleared from H St earlier today have reappeared just feet away. Debates are breaking out, but it’s a calm atmosphere. Trump is expected to speak in 2 hrs. Most of the interactions b/w the different sides here have been debates — like this one when Refuse Fascism activists told folks to walk on the US flag, saying it‘s a symbol of “slavery, genocide and war.” A Trump supporter asked why they need to step on the flag to make a point.

Heading to the White House for another day of #GeorgeFloydProtests, and I cannot overstate how surreal it is to have to go through checkpoints manned by federal agents (DEA) and then watch armored military vehicles roam downtown with a police escort. Extremely eerie. #DCProtests Crowd here is kneeling, fists and signs raised, as they chant “take a knee” at police (less armored than the last several days) behind a brand new, very tall fence around the park. #DC

Reporting for night duty out here at the White House again. As soon as I got here police started firing pepper bullets. #dc #GeorgeFloydprotest There are more people here than this time last night. Over the course of the day, the standoff between proteters and police has moved around the District. But tonight, the line is down the center of Lafayette Park, as the White House glows in the background.

Window broken at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute building. Protesters wrote “fuck Reagan” and “black lives matter” on the building. Thick black smoke rising nearby. Found the fire: Vehicle on fire at the corner of 16th and I St. Police have blocked off the street. Protesters are running back toward the park, saying “they’re boxing us in!” Firefighters just arrived.

NOW: A goup of anti-Trump demonstrators have staged a sit-in during a tour in the Capitol rotunda. They’re chanting “Trump is guilty,” “acquital is a coverup” and “honor your oath!” #ImpeachmentDay They are 10 women, who are now being arrested by Capitol Police, and came to #DC to protest today’s expected Senate vote to acquit President Trump. #ImpeachmentDay

In front of the White House now: anti-white supremacy rally in response to a weekend of violence that left more than 30 people dead in two mass shootings over a span of mere hours. #dc Sherrilyn Ifill, the director of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, tells the crowd here that President Trump “did not invent white supremacy,” though he has given it new life in America. People in the audience are shouting “yes!” as she speaks. #dc #WhiteSupremacy

Starting now: Catholics are gathered on the Capital lawn to protest the Trump Administration’s immigration policies and to call on Congress to defund ICE, stop detaining children and reform immigration policies they’re calling “inhumane.” They’re calling this #catholicdayofaction This is the second time this week faith leaders have come to #DC to protest the Trump Administration’s immigration policy — on Tuesday, 10 Jewish activists were arrested inside ICE headquarters in an effort to disrupt operations there: washingtonpost.com/local/10-prote…
