18 U.S Code § 2331 (5) added in 1992 this definition of “domestic terrorism”(as distinct from “international terrorism”) as follows:

“… Activities that— (A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; 1/13
(B) appear to be intended— (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and 2/13

The GOP Is Taking the US Down an Unspeakable Path

If the #ImpeachmentDay debates didn’t scare you, you haven’t been paying attention.
The Nazis conflated the communists and the jews leading to the shoah.

Hitler said that "the Jews were the archetypal enemies of the German Volk, and no Communism or Bolshevism existed outside Jewry."
McCarthy and Cohn conflated the communists and the gays, leading to the Lavender Scare.

Over 5,000 people were fired. We cannot count how many people’s lives were destroyed by exposing their homosexuality in a society of generalised bigotry.

THREAD: It’s #ImpeachmentDay and I’ve got money on my mind.

We learned yesterday that Trump’s largest lender, Deutsche Bank, is done doing business with him.

Before he took office, no U.S. major bank was willing to do business with him.
And in the last 48 hours, we’ve seen scores of major companies respond to last week’s riots & the refusal to certify the free & fair election (all fueled by Trump himself), cut off political donations, and some terminating business/payment processing for the Trump Campaign.
The PGA cancelling the upcoming championship at Trump Bedminster was another major blow to Trump’s bottom line & brand.

None of this would have happened if Trump was simply ending his term like any normal President.

An Open Letter to my fellow citizens of the MAGA denomination

Dear MAGA Crowd,
You were right all along. There is a party in our government that is going to come to our homes and take away our guns. I can see it coming now, and I need to let you know that you were right. (1)
Guns represent our freedom as American citizens. They are a tangible, deadly symbol of all our other freedoms. Like our freedom to force our religious beliefs on others and dictate women’s reproductive rights or lack thereof. You were right, they are coming for the guns, (2)
and soon, I fear. Hey, don’t look over there while we are burying a bill to increase the security of our elections, the elections that we have a right to; we are over here making sure those Dems don’t take your guns. Stop checking to see if that lawsuit will really strip (3)

NOW: A goup of anti-Trump demonstrators have staged a sit-in during a tour in the Capitol rotunda. They’re chanting “Trump is guilty,” “acquital is a coverup” and “honor your oath!” #ImpeachmentDay
They are 10 women, who are now being arrested by Capitol Police, and came to #DC to protest today’s expected Senate vote to acquit President Trump. #ImpeachmentDay
Police cleared the rotunda as they prepared to arrest the group. Everyone else on their tour — members of the same anti-Trump activist community — were escorted out. #ImpeachmentDay

SIREN: Senate poised to acquit Trump on opinion of ... his defense team – & against consensus of 500 legal/constitutional scholars.

THREAD

1. Even GOP star House witness, Turley, rejects Dershowitz case that a modern crime/behavior needed to impeach.

nbcnews.com/politics/meet-…
When asked who GOP consulted, at least 3 GOP senators referred NBC only to POTUS defense team, on which Dershowitz served.

“Alan is completely alone,” said Prof. Frank Bowman, whose area of expertise at University of Missouri includes impeachment.
In 1999 Clinton trial, 19 experts testified w differing views. “Republicans needed someone to say the sun rises in the West and Alan put his hand up,” said Bowman.

Dershowitz, in an email to NBC, did not name other living scholars who agree other than 1 assis. Prof. (who is now

Today is the first day of arguments (without witnesses or documents, in an historic Fascist First) in the Mostly Moot Impeachment Senate Trial of Donald John Trump. So I will start a new thread here. #ImpeachmentTrial
Since the Repubs have set the rules so that no actual deliberations will take place, I'll tend to go a bit meta in this thread, writing of the background and intentions as well as noting whatever comes down with the gavel. #ImpeachmentDay
The trial started with an absurd display of piety, as a minister intoned a prayer to his god, claiming that he was omniscient ("You know our thoughts before we think them") but then reminding it of its duty. I suppose the god is getting old and forgetful then #ImpeachmentTrial

THREAD -- The fact that @HouseDemocrats spent the first day of the #ImpeachmentDay trial in the Senate focusing on the need for more witnesses to make their case underscores the very weakness of their own impeachment effort in the House. They screwed up and they know it.
I spent almost two months re-directing my priorities in office to listen to depositions and determine if there was evidence presented meeting the constitutional requirement of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." In my view, no such evidence was presented.
If you are predisposed to believe the president engaged in conduct deserving of scrutiny, blame the House Democrats for failing to do their job, not the Senate.

@SpeakerPelosi rushed the case through to a partisan vote (losing Democrats, gaining no Republicans).

The Senate convenes now to try the President of the United States for impeachable offenses, namely, bribery to subvert the elections, and obstruction. #ImpeachAndRemoveTrump
The Republicans, under Mitch McConnell, will now try to set rules that will ram through a quick moot court without witnesses, in an historic first and a powerful gesture towards dictatorship #ImpeachedForLife
The rules would force the Democrats to present their case for twelve hours at a time and late into the midnight hours. Careful attention has been paid to make the procedure as visually boring as possible #ImpeachmentTrialRules #ImpeachedForLife

Good morning. We start President Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate with debate and then a vote on the rules that will guide how the trial unfolds. I will frequently be reporting from inside the chamber and largely relegated to pen/pad until I can access electronics.
I hope you will continue to follow along here for updates and color as the trial progresses!

Debate in Senate starts at 1PM ET today, both sides get an hour. Then, expected around 3PM ET, Dems propose amendments to GOP resolution and eventually, some time tonight, they vote.
For your review, the organizing resolution proposed by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

The Daily Mail have systematically hunted Meghan and Harry down like Diana over a number of years. Now they claim H&M to be "traitors" for being hunted and choosing a different path for themselves ... cont'd

The Mail's treatment of Meghan and Harry is the same behaviours that tabloids apply to Remainers, Judges etc.

They invested 17 pages of hate in their pursuit of H&M today because they chose a different pathway for their exit instead of a tunnel of love ...

Agreed to The Impeachment Resolution Article I of the 45th U.S. PRESIDENT H RES 755.

Today, 3 years of partisan hatred is culminating in the ultimate abuse of power by House Democrats: #ImpeachmentDay
21 years after Bill Clinton’s impeachment and 3 years after Hillary Clinton’s well-deserved loss, Washington Democrats are exacting political revenge on behalf of the Clintons by impeaching Donald Trump for winning the 2016 election.

That is his real crime.
From the moment violent riots broke out in leftist strongholds after Donald Trump emerged victorious, Democrats plotted his forced removal or impeachment.

Their hatred of Donald Trump is why we are about to see the only partisan impeachment vote in the history of our country.

While we wait for the vote in the US House of Representatives on Articles of Impeachment against Donald J. Trump, I think it is worth taking some time to remember all the hard work that got us to this historic moment. A personal journey of 2019.... #ImpeachmentDay
Accountability began with the #BlueWave2018 in November 2018, where people all over the country said ENOUGH! Voters turned out in massive numbers to give a majority to the @HouseDemocrats. This was no fluke, but a MASSIVE effort by citizens all over America.
Then the real crazy started, with new offenses every day and a long gov't shutdown driven by Trump's racism and spite. It is here where Trump made his first major attempt to take away the power of the purse away from Congress with his #FakeNationalEmergency.

1/ The only thing more disgusting than the GOP's refusal to break with the most corrupt president we've ever had is their utter contempt and hatred of the brave civil servants without whom our country could not function. These people keep us safe and secure, working without . . .
2/ . . . recognition or thanks. They work incredibly long hours at difficult jobs, often for very little pay. They suffered greatly during the last government shutdown. They are truly the unsung heroes of our country.
3/ But to the GOP, they're lower than something you scraped off your shoe. Through these hearings, they've constantly lambasted them as "faceless, nameless bureaucrats", and suggested that they're part of the non-existen "Deep State".

Happy #ImpeachmentDay, everyone! Savour the day, the memories, the reactions, the feeling, and, most importantly, the removal of one of the most vile, most corrupt goblins to have slithered into modern politics. Good riddance.
I sort of admire the persistence of mad Republicans insisting it's a partisan and laughable abuse of power to impeach a man that has evidence stacked against him. They keep denying crimes. They keep denying a quid pro quo. They keep mentioning the Bidens. Incredible and pathetic.
Bonkers how one side is stating the evidence for a quid pro quo (because there is) and reason for impeachment for crimes (there is). Then there's one unhinged side saying there was no quid pro quo or evidence. Imagine being this complicit in denying simple, clear evidence.
