1. Now that the dust had settled a bit, some reflections on the recent decimation of #IS on Telegram:
2. On 21-24 November, Europol trashed #IS’s entire media distribution network on Telegram, not to mention most of its major munasir groups and foundations.

1. Ongoing thread covering #IS’s response to and comms around recent developments in northern #Syria. Focus will be on camps, prisons and tactics.
2. 9 Oct: Something weird going on in #Raqqa, which was, per #SDF reports last night, subject to a “large-scale assault” by #IS. Meanwhile, total radio silence from #IS.

Some general observations about #IS’s response to #Turkey's incursion into #Syria:
1. ON TACTICS: #IS appears to have reactivated its covert cells in NE #Syria, having put them (mostly) on a back-burner since the second “raid of attrition” in early August.

1. Okay, so I have sat and thought for a bit. This is why I think the #Baghdadi video is worth talking about:

1. Since #IS issued its #SriLanka claim, there's been lots of discussion on a) whether it inspired/directed the attackers and b) whether it was in response to #Christchurch. These are interesting, important discussions to have, but we mustn't lose sight of the wood for the trees.
2. It is critical that we think about the overarching logic behind this attack, not just what happened and how it happened. I’ll be doing that over the next few tweets.

1. In other news, the battle rages on against #IS's last pocket of territory in #Syria. Looks like there’s about a square kilometre left. This pic (via @NotWoofers) was reportedly taken from inside it today. 2. Although #IS has been pretty vocal about what’s happening elsewhere (think #Nigeria/#Yemen/#Iraq), there's not been a peep from it about #Baghuz since Tuesday.
Usually in this context (think #Raqqa, #Mosul and #Hajin), radio silence is a sign that it has given up.

Three quick points in light of the Shamima Begum news:
1. I take issue with Begum’s lawyer saying that she should be viewed as a “victim.” This is naive: it denies that she has any agency. She herself says that she doesn’t regret going to or staying in #IS.
