I have been a dedicated INDEPENDENT #StopTPP #activists for almost 10 yrs. I started studying it, after I admired #AaronSwartz's work to #StopSOPA--after he passed away, I felt incensed govt tried to reinsert #SOPA into #TPP (now called #CPTPP). #StopCPTPP…
I ended up having very bad experiences, not really understanding why...for years. I knew people were following me & hassling me, but I did not know who or why...I had no idea about govt. targeting programs, at the time.

I was following #KimDotcom's case, because he had been attacked, allegedly, for #SOPA--which never passed in USA"s Congress, due to #AaronSwartz's work...copyright infringement is NOT criminal Dotcom's case was interesting to me.

Since coming back to beautiful #Aotearoa, I’ve been ridiculously busy working on an exciting new focus - making films on #conservation, #wildlife & the #climatecrisis. During the #NZ summer I’ve had the privilege of filming in the stunning #OtagoPeninsula ... #Thread
... in the wildlife capital of #NZ#Dunedin (Otepoti). I’m totally blown away by the depth & breadth of the #conservation work happening all over #Aotearoa, especially to help save NZ’s endemic #wildlife. Standby for a #conservation #thread ... :)
#NZ has a number of native species currently under threat - from forest birds like the Kea, the iconic Kiwi, Kākāpō & Takahē. But it’s Dunedin that is hailed as the #wildlifecapitalofNZ because it’s here that you can see so much wildlife – from #sealions #furseals #penguins ...

A Thread about the best test batsmen 1/25
#India #Aus #NZ #Stats #Cricket

A #statistical breakdown

Kane Williamson: 7115 runs @ 54.31, 24x100s
Virat Kohli: 7318 runs @ 53.41, 27x100s
Steve Smith: 7368 runs @ 61.91, 27x100s

Smith here has the best average by a fair way.
But the joy of cricket is in its intricacies so let’s dive a little deeper. At home the 3 batsmen are absolute run machines.

Kane Williamson: 3788 runs @ 65.31 13x100s
Virat Kohli: 3558 runs @ 68.42 13x100s
Steve Smith: 3485 runs @ 68.33 14x100s
Here their statistics are very similar.

However it is worth noting how hard it is to bat in each of these countries. These figures reflect the average runs of each players team mates in the last 10 years.

Australia: 44.27 runs/wicket
New Zealand: 42.28
India: 44.17

ok @DaveSharma i promised i'd explain why your tweet is nonsense & why you shouldn't repeat it.

👇here's #australia vs #newzealand relative emissions since 2005:
• australia ⬆️ 6%
• new zealand ⬇️ 3%

(you'll notice that LULUCF is excluded…)
why is LULUCF (land-use, land-use change & forestry) excluded?

1. measurement methodologies aren't standard between countries & frequently change — no robust method to compare countries
2. annual fluctuations are high / noisy

data: PRIMAP-hist v2.1…
3. the vast majority of australia's LULUCF variation is driven by changes to QLD land-clearing laws, a function of state political tussles, and nothing to do with commonwealth policy.
4. australia is famous for using LULUCF as a fudge, see @MichaelM_ACT:…

A thought about political pathology. Most understand now the contagion of Trump’s particular personality. But this issue of mental fitness for governance is relevant even in a country like #NZ. Younger Kiwis can be more emotionally intelligent than previous generations.
2. And that matters these days, more than ever. Because effective leadership demands high levels of emotional intelligence. But these days we are ALL super-sensitive to emotional pathology in the people who affect our lives. We can smell narcissism a mile off.
3. My theory is that Jacinda Ardern is just a very grounded person, with a stable, largely trauma-free background, combined with very good skills for her job. This is why #NZ feels confidence in her. It’s not an act - you can’t fake these things.

seeing as we can't talk about other things on here today 😬 & given that I've spent the past week poring over the #TeTārukeāTāwhiri: #Auckland's #Climate Plan text again, I thought you might be interested in a few key parts of the Plan that are often overlooked.
first off, why Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri?
a gift from the mana whenua of Tāmaki, this cultural narrative is deeply emebedded in this place, but critically "...calls for a change in our response, from a human-centred approach to an ecological-centred approach..." 2/x
Mana Whenua, through the Kaitiki Forum, have played a key role in developing our #ClimateAction response, drawing together wisdom & knowledge of Tāmaki w/ the understanding that living systems & #whakapapa relationships are key to #wellbeing, #sustainability & #resilience. 3/x

This letter by @NickHudsonCT represents activism at its finest. @Pandata19 is a multidisciplinary group of people who cares deeply about saving lives. They challenged the unrealistic government models that were based in wrong assumptions. 1/n…
Here are two pieces of incriminating evidence that can take the modelers and those who accepted their models to court:
The #DiamondPrincess was a perfect experiment to observe and learn from about the lethality of #COVID19 and the extent of susceptibility in the population. 2/n
Turning a blind eye to the #DiamondPrincess data is a crime. This can be used in the court of law to bring justice to the people whose lives have been ruined as a result of the unjustified draconian measures.3/n

A #rugby thread.

1/x I'm living in #Aoteoroa New Zealand, but am a native of the sports-addled USA city of #Boston. I am not as fanatical for the home teams as most of my bruthiznsistiz in that place, but I do enjoy live, in-person stadium sports events very much indeed.
2/x #NZ is one of the only places on the face of the Earth right now where you can attend live, in-person stadium sports events. Specifically, rugby. Specifically, the national team—the world-famous @AllBlacks.
3/x I've been to precisely one rugby game, at @skystadium here in #Wellington, NZ's capital city. I enjoyed it immensely. Yes, it's true, I had little clue what was going on down on the field (pitch?), but it sure seemed exciting, and the other fans seemed thrilled. So, all good.

A thread about the English Establishment, state psychopathy, #COVID19… and why it really matters how people in power think. 🧐✊🇪🇺🇻🇳#history #ToriesOut #resist 🦠
The popular idea of a colonial official during the British Empire days was of a paternal figure dispensing justice and spreading civilisation, as in the 1935 film “Sanders of the River” (see pic), a grossly patronising tale set in colonial #Nigeria... 😬🇳🇬 #BritishEmpire #Korda
The reality was, of course, very different. Consider the work of Charles Callwell, a British soldier with much colonial experience, pictured here on the WWI Caucasus Front as a Major-General in 1916. #Callwell #SmallWars #ColonialViolence 🇹🇷🇷🇺

There's been a meme around for a long time that goes like this:

"First they came for the journalists. We don't know what happened after that."
Of course, it was obvious to all those who looked with open eyes that #JulianAssange was the canary in the #FreePress coal mine.

Or was, perhaps, Alexander Pope's butterfly - broken on a (Catherine) wheel. [From Pope's "Epistle to Dr Arbuthnot"]
Some journalists argued that Julian #Assange was "not a journalist" - maybe that made them feel safer.

Most just looked away - maybe after a carefully crafted sentence at a state-sponsored, glittery #FreePress event (where news platforms like #RT were shut out in the cold).

For some reason I've made a list of how many Twitter followers various #NZ public figures have. They can be divided into two roughly equal groups: (1) @lorde, and (2) the entire rest of the country.
The top parliamentarian is @jacindaardern, unsurprisingly. Two former PMs still beat her. The way things look she should overtake @HelenClarkNZ sometime in the next fortnight, but @RtHon_JohnKey should hold top spot for a good while yet.
I'm not sure I've got all the most-followed journalists, but I'm pretty sure @JohnJCampbell is the front-runner. He's followed by @davidfarrier, @Hilary_Barry, and @publicaddress (Russell Brown).
