Thread: As an expert on dynamics of gender violence, I am intrigued at the willingness of other experts & professionals in this area to let the police officers on the bodycam video off the hook - or even THANK THEM - for their response on that call. #GabbyPetito
The officers might not have been "jerks" in the way they communicated with Gabby during their response, but they clearly lacked adequate training in partner violence response and WRONGLY identified the primary aggressor.
People who experience partner violence deserve worlds better. Training for situations like this should be a MINIMUM requirement, especially because abusers often use law enforcement (and whatever biases & lack of training officers have) to manipulate their partners.
#GabbyPetito: Lawyer for #BrianLaundrie tells me via text “I do not know where Brian is or if Brian is alive.” When asked about why he cancelled press conference: “It was canceled because it was no longer in the best interest of the clients.”
FYI: I bugged him for a while to get a reply. Not the best approach but he also confirmed he isn’t “gagged” by the court/authorities from talking about the case.
UPDATE re #GabbyPetito: I followed up w/ lawyer to ask if he had “any direct contact with Brian in person/phone or were all communications for the most part between Brian’s parents?” No response to that, but he said he last spoke w/ #BrianLaundrie on “Monday, September 13”
Things we’ve learned about the tragic #GabbyPetito murder
1st - Most importantly WE have to BE and RAISE better men than that shitbag boyfriend.
2nd - Women, if you even have an inkling that a boy you are seeing shows signs of control or abuse tell someone and RUN early.

3rd - If a woman tells you or you have suspicions that someone you know is in an abusive situation (mentally or physically) believe them if they have the courage to confide in you and do your best to help them if they don’t because you might be their last hope.
4 - For women, abuse mental or physical, only has reactionary consequences. It is often too late before someone can get a restraining order or for any legit legal action to be taken. That needs to change. Girls shouldn’t have to first be assaulted to get away from abusive men.

Thanks to the RAW 2.5k video released by Red White & Bethune I was able to further enhance the footage of the back of the #GabbyPetito #BrianLaundrie van to the point where you can clearly see the back door of their van abruptly close.
As requested, here is the second anomaly some thought might have been Brian digging in the creek, you can see in the enhanced video that the black figure is not a human figure and is more aligned with being terrain. #GabbyPetito #BrianLaundrie

1. She was overly apologetic, she had protective body language in that video where she was deemed “hysterical” by police, and emotional by the boyfriend and took the blame for whatever occurred. All of these things are signs of being “gaslit”. #GABBYPETITO
2. He said he took her keys and locked her out of her van (home) and she was scared of being abandoned. He also belittled her chosen field (social media) to law enforcement though he gained notoriety through it. This is the behavior of a manipulator and narcissist. #GABBYPETITO
I zoomed in, enhanced, and stabilized the Red White and Bethune video of the #gabbypetitio and #BrianLaundrie van in Grand Teton . It looks to me like someone is in the van with the back door cracked open then closes it when hearing the oncoming vehicle. What are your thoughts?
Another note, a pair of flip flops can be seen below the right rear door, the one that appears to slowly close.
And on a 2012 Ford Transit, the passenger right rear door is the same door that has to be opened first as that’s where the handle is.
I don't always get invested in missing persons cases, but I got invested in the #GabbyPetito one when I saw this. There are so many red flags about the relationship in these 2 minutes, and it was sad to see it written off in the police report as a "mental health crisis." /1
And it's sad even if she hadn't gone missing a couple weeks later. Gabby Petito was upset, but she calmed down over the course of the hourlong footage; the cops just chose to talk to the boyfriend more. /2
I'm not blaming the officers for her going missing--nothing they could've done would've prevented that--although I will criticize them for bro'ing it up with the boyfriend. /3
Asking folks to watch—I mean actually watch—this bodycam video of police interaction with #GabbyPetito and #BrianLaundrie shortly before she went missing. Therr are new developments in this case (now he’s gone too) but I mostly want to discuss #domesticviolence CW: DV, abuse, etc
While I’m not a MH professional, I grew up in an abusive home with a violent narcissist. & bc of that, I’ve also had my share of unhealthy relationships. So, yes: I see this through a lens of personal experience but I’d hope my educated observations add value—NOT distorted facts.
Not here to go over inconsistencies in Brian’s story (although there are a LOT of them if you look) but to discuss how police could have saved a life (or more) but instead chose to fall into ancient tropes about the “crazy gf/ex” & “emotional=unreliable”. Let’s start w/the van.
