1) When India reached the historic milestone of providing electricity source to every village, many asked.. what's so great about these 18,000 villages? Lakhs got power before.

But the effort @narendramodi govt took within 1000 days is exemplary. Some details in this thread.
2) The electrification of the Necha village of Arunachal Pradesh required a commissioning team to carry heavy equipment on their backs over Kumey river crossing. Watch the 45 seconds video here -
3) In Gujarat, the Shiyal Bet village was electrified by laying a 6.4 km undersea cable. For 5000 Indians on an island, this monumental under sea cabling was taken up.
4) Shadey is the most remote village in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, with just 13 houses and 100 people, needed solar panels transported manually over very difficult mountains. Still it happened in record time.

5) In Jammu & Kashmir, choppers were used for building electrical grids. Some for village electrification & some for other purposes.

There were more than 100 villages in the coldest part of Kashmir valley. All connected!

6) In 16 villages of Arunachal Pradesh, Pawan Hans Helicopters were deployed for ferrying material. For 102 villages in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, men carried heavy material and equipment on foot for up to 10 days.

7) 1044 villages in Bihar, 2478 in Jharkhand, 1051 in Chhattisgarh, 14 in MP & 3027 in Odisha were Naxal infested. Electrification of villages was done at grave personal risk to the government employees.

Overall 2016 to 2018 were historic time for India. Thanks @narendramodi !

1) Do you know that Srinagar area in Jammu and Kashmir has some really beautiful, scenic and ancient Hindu temples? Here is a thread about some must-visit temples, that we visited.
#Kashmir Temple 1: The beautiful Durga Nag temple is in the heart of Srinagar city, within walking distance from the Z-security mansions of big name politicians in Rainawari. It is very safe to visit this temple and we did even when there was tension in other parts of Kashmir.
#Kashmir Temple 1: I never even dreamt that we would be getting a chance to participate in a Vedic Havan in Srinagar and specifically putting purnahuti to agni!

Durga Nag temple is a good place for local Hindus to visit with their children and participate in puja regularly.

The amazing fact is that it was to become our national bird but it was denied the honour for the worry that its name might be misspelt! Bastard 😒😒

Why would we be Hanafi? Mazhab was not important when Islam was introduced. In fact it was the sufis who popularised Islam here but that doesn't make us sufis either. Yemenis from the Hadramut had an influence but it pales in comparison to Indian Muslims
The myth of Islam's introduction directly from Arabs is a hard one to kill. Even many westerners tend to make this assumption. "Islam is from Arabia so Arabs must have brought it here". The fact that Arabs did trade with Malays only reinforced the idea
But although Arabs did trade directly with Southeast Asia, much of that trade (particular the trade in spices and camphor) was done through India. When the Portuguese tried to find the source of the spices, they asked the Arabs who said they were obtained from Indians

In a way he was a true practitioner of Raj Dharma, the ruler who put the welfare of his people above anything else.
Shahu Maharaj would take his place amongst such enlightened rulers like the Wodeyars of Mysore, the Travancore Rajas, Gaekwads of Baroda, Holkars of Indore, among the princely states, in having a long term vision and care for the subjects.
