Reform-leaning politicians have always had serious opposition from the political elite, who wish to perpetuate the status quo. Today, Kayode Fayemi is the political barometer for governors/public leaders who wish to implement system-wide reform in the system.

Educational reform in Kaduna state in the last few days has generated the usual bickering that permeates the political divide. The conversations that my generation needs to have regarding education are many, but should be beyond the childish politicking that's pervasive so far
The dangers of politicizing our educational system is that 1) children suffer 2) our future is endangered 3) we keep losing our competitiveness as we fail to raise a new generation of thinkers with the skills & resources required to better their lives, add to nation's prosperity
This is what saddens most about the conversation around Kaduna's teacher recruitment exercise. Folks are willing to recall what happened to @kfayemi as a result of his widely appraised but politically costly educational reform. Well, history will judge that!
Shortly after Malam Nasir @elrufai became @GovKaduna (won the election), I embarked, on his directive, on a state-wide analysis on some of the paralysis in kaduna's public service: hospitals, educational institutions, roads, Kad Textile, along others.

I gathered evidence using pictures, videos and, where possible, conducted interviews. I gathered this data so that he can have more than enough proof for the constructive arguments in support of the critical and perhaps radical reforms that are required to transform Kaduna state.
Maybe he will release some of these data.In all, there was no school we got to after 12pm where we met teachers! They either had left or refused to show up. In many instances, we met children on their way out by 11am and teachers preparing for their marketplace sales.

Educational deterioration was pervasive: As is consistent with other states, I saw children under trees (thenusual), and in dilapidated environments, not worthy of a state that prides itself as the Centre of learning and education. This has since changed! @GovKaduna #EdReform
People in the sector know about the rot in public education. As a lover of reform and public policy initiatives that benefit society, I wasn't surprised about kaduna's recent declarations of the fallout of the test process for teachers. I saw it first hand! #EdReform
When I reported these findings to @GovKaduna, he confirmed he had suspected the rot but was rather alarmed at the evidence I showed him: the pictures and videos show the degree of radical emergency that public service delivery needed #EdReform
Our educational system is a mess; Given that the political elite arbitrarily reward their cronies with jobs in the educational sector, circumventing due process and standards and robbing our children of proper education. #EdReform #Kaduna #Nigeria
I am not surprised by Malam Nasir's forward thinking regarding what HAS TO BE DONE to make kaduna education highly competitive. Hate him but you can be assured of his competency for public service delivery. He's more than wired for the job. #EdReform #Kaduna
In a political system that's however rife with Garbs and acrimonious arguments that's centered on the euphemeral, and one where Kayode Fayemi has become the caution for reform-intending leaders, @GovKaduna has taken a bold step we need to support. #EdReform #Kaduna
The future of our nation is at stake. At 24m unemployed people, moreso with a highly unskilled labour force, there is need to reform our education: infrastructure provision, curriculum, teacher reform, (employing our very best to teach our children) among others #EdReform
We need an educational system that's in alignment with the economic vision so that our education becomes a fit for our economic goals. This is our advanced nations develop! This is what our states and nation needs to do #EdReform
Wonder why Finland has been, and remains, number one in global education ranking: PhDs are the minimal requirement for teaching in their primary schools. Yes Nigeria won't jump their in one day. But the conversation we need have is: WHAT IS THE BEST We CAN DO FOR OUR CHILDREN!?
The danger/opportunity cost for allowing less qualified people teach our children: we shortchange them for the best future, rob them of competing with their peers in the global cycle, and we rob our nation and society of the incredulous potenialnthey have within them #EdReform
Today, our children, a huge percentage of the 270,000 graduates we release to the market yearly - Nigeria - are ill prepared for the challenges of the future and the market place. Productivity is lost in trying to retrain them. Costly for investment too #EdReform
The incredible potential of our children lie there: imprisoned, dormant, waiting to be tapped and explored. Only qualified hands can make them understand, release and maximize their potentials. This is what @GovKaduna is ailing at! Raising the best children #EdReform
We need new breed of tutors that can inspire confidence, leadership skills, Sound analysis, rigour of thought and innovative cognition that our society lacks today. Nigeria lags behind in competitive ranking largely cos of poor workforce #EdReform
We need a new generation of young people who can innovate to create wealth and employment, a new generation who can inspire and lead a New Nigeria. We are in serious problems with our current standard of education #EdReform
Education is the key, the opportunity for our children to opening doors of wealth for themselves, our parents, our society and our nation. I've seen standards across many countries across the world. It's a different ball game #EdReform
Of the top 10 PISA dominated countries in global education, I've been to four. I've seen how things are done. Nigeria is heading to hell the way it's currently raising its young ones educationally. We need STRUCTURAL REFORM/CHANGE #EdReform
The cost of private education is, today, totally unbearable and quality education is not even guaranteed. Private education thrives LARGELY (not solely) because of the failure of our public educational system. Wake Up Nigeria #EdReform
I am not unaware of the pain that this sack would cost, but I look at the big picture: our children's future. Education cannot be the dumping ground of an ignorant and evil political elite. #EdReform
We simply need the BEST MINDS TO TRAIN OUR CHILDREN. if this requires sacking everybody to get it right, if this requires critical dialogue and pushing reset, so be it. WE NEED A HARD RESET family #EdReform
Given rise of highly skilled criminals and delinquents in our society, given that Kaduna is the epicenter of economic activity in the north west, given that EVERY CHILD DESERVES SOUND EDUCATION, we owe it to posterity to rally behind @GovKaduna to transform Kaduna's education
We owe it to ourselves and the survival of our nation to support every leader who truly and selflessly clamor for and lead change, especially in education. I support @GovKaduna's needful process for sound reform in the educational system in Kaduna state. #EdReform
