"Love your neighbor," Jesus said. Then someone asked, "Who is my neighbor?" In response, Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan, where the "neighbor" turns out to be someone from from a hated group, and from another land. These three should read the parable (Lk 10:25-37). 1/
The Samaritans and Jews were very much odds. So Jesus invites us to have a much broader concept of who our "neighbor" is. It's not simply people who live nearby, or even live in our own country. Like it or not, this is what Jesus asks us to do: Love our neighbor as ourselves. 2/
At the end of your life, God is going to ask, "Did you care for your neighbors?" Do you really want to answer, "Only if I liked them?" Or "Only if it wasn't risky?" Or "Only if they were Americans?" Or, maybe, "Only if they lived in Idaho or Texas?" How will you answer? 3/3
