1/ When we woke up this morning, even before getting out of bed, I asked if we wanted to watch Morning Joe. My wife groaned about facing the onslaught. Bing! I saw that that’s who he is! President Onslaught. Let’s explore.

1/ When we woke up this morning, even before getting out of bed, I asked if we wanted to watch Morning Joe. My wife groaned about facing the onslaught. Bing! I saw that that’s who he is! President Onslaught. Let’s explore.
2/ I'll begin with a text. God, in the book of Job, asks “Who shut in the sea with doors and said, ‘Thus far shall you come and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed?” (Job 38: 8, 11)
3/ Israel never had a navy. Land is good; the sea is chaos. It’s where you drowned. Throughout the Bible, the sea, beginning in the opening of Genesis, is a place of great storms.
4/ We are made in God’s image. So -- when we’re surrounded by storms, please know that God provides a place, a place of the mind and of the heart, a place of home, where we can go...
5/..a place where we can turn to the chaos and say, “Thus far shall you come and no farther; here shall your proud waves be stayed.”
6/ President Onslaught is raging away out there. Onslaughts of stupidity; onslaughts of dishonesty and of personal cruelty; onslaughts of disloyalty, of insults, of racial slurs, of braggadocio. President Onslaught pounds us day by day from the Oval Office.
7/ Recently, having kidnapped & incarcerated thousands of children, our great leader went to the new South to demagogue about non-white illegal immigrants to all white crowds...
8/....There the crowds gazed with Pence-worthy adoring desire as the President of the United States soiled himself in public.
9/ He’s a perpetual onslaught. The word means violent intrusion, rape, attack in order to subjugate. The mob is perpetually doing onslaught.
10/ When, in 2013, Onslaught emerged from his meeting with Russian mobsters (Oligarchs), having learned some of the ways of Putin, he began steadily imitating those ways, probably with the goal of becoming as rich as Putin.
11/ President Onslaught’s tactic is never to let up, to keep lurching from one attack on decency to the next, and to punctuate the attacks with those refreshing rallies where he can pause for reassurance and adoration.
12/ Where do you go? Where is your sanctuary -- the land behind the shoreline where you can say to his proud chaos, “Thus far shall you come and no farther”?
13/ If we’re going to outlast him and resist until the nation can be restored, we’re going to need not only time to resist him, but also time to exclude him.
14/ Carve out the time, carve out the place -- that place from which old Onslaught is barred.
15/ I think I’ll take my dogs and walk in the mountains now. We’ll watch the deer.
