‘Impact factors’ for research journals make me laugh.

Go out to the working class and ask them if they have ever read your work. Ask policymakers. Ask people outside of academia and then come tell me about impact factors.

We have our own version of ‘impact’. Human impact.
I’m not in this game to publish my work in some high class journal that will hide my work behind a paywall away from the people who need it.

I do my job to improve society and real peoples lives. I do it to encourage and influence professionals to do the same.
I mean, who outside of academia even know the names of an academic journal? How would they even get access to it?

Impact is much larger than whether your mates at another uni have cited you in some study that is also in the journal behind another paywall.

THINK BIGGER.
