I’ll be in federal court in San Francisco this morning as the ACLU attempts to block the Trump administration’s new asylum policy. Hearing starts in 45 minutes.
Gerlent currently reading over statistics from the early 2000s showing higher number of border arrests then than now, proving that "this is not one of those emergency situations" to institute a change to asylum w/o giving proper time for the public to comment on it.

Lately, I've been talking about how monopolization in the tech sector has been attended in a rise of defensive legal tools to prevent new competitors from "disrupting" the firms that gained dominance through disruption (the golden age for pirates who become admirals)
Here's a good concrete example: when Uber and Lyft walked away from Austin, TX (a tantrum over drivers being regulated like taxi drivers), the drivers formed a co-op and cloned the rideshare app: @ride_austin
Ride is just fuckin' great. Seriously. It works exactly like Uber and Lyft, but the drivers get an extra 25% -- the share that would normally be siphoned off for Uber/Lyft's shareholders.

I don't think hormesis should be the central issue.

Here, I agree with Geraldine Thomas, that there may be a hormetic effect, and some statistics are quite intriguing indeed, but the statistics don't seem to show a consistent picture.
Frankly, I developed a mild case of ARS from studying radiation statistics :-)

For me, the case hit home when I - finally - read about the BIOLOGY of radiation damage.

By far the most radiation damage originates indirectly.
The only 'bad' thing ionizing radiation does, is that it smashes molecules - and since the cell is mostly water, it mostly smashes water molecules.

These pieces of molecule, called 'reactive oxygen species' or ROS do most of the damage that really matters: DNA strand breaks.

After a number of you objected quite loudly, and TEFF threatened to sue us, we decided it wasn't worth the fight, and pulled Eros Text from our catalogue. Unfortunately, TEFF seems to be using Dutch copyright law to do more patent trolling than type designing these days
That being said, imagining Bram and Matthias painstakingly going from felt tip pen to the Icarus system and engineering the entire family with 1980’s software over almost a decade, it's understandable why TEFF would be protective
