In slavery days, whites developed convoluted racist theories about how black people supposedly didn't feel emotional pain as strongly or as long. as whites did.
I'm reminded of those theories today when I see Republicans deny the obvious truth of the devastation caused by family separation. huffingtonpost.com/entry/separate…
You can only ask "why would you bring your child across the border" if you don't understand that a parent would only do that if they were even more scared about what staying behind would mean for their child.
Anyway, this is just a long version of a question I asked a couple of weeks ago.
I find myself thinking about that, these days—about how I'd function if one of my kids had been taken this way when she was three or five or seven. Just imagining it gives me vertigo.
I sat in a waiting room for four hours waiting while my seven-year-old daughter went through heart surgery. I'd take that again in an instant over what these parents are going through.
