here’s the #ThaiCaveRescue thread for today. the rescue was paused last night to resupply oxygen, but divers are said to be entering the cave again “soon.”
now we’re at the multilingual school that half of the boys attend, about to hear from staff and classmates.
Teacher at Mae Sai Prasitsart School: “We have to prepare ourselves for when the boys return. We will follow the guidelines of mental health professionals.”
Kittichok Kankeaw, classmate of trapped boy Tle: “I can help him with his homework.”
a bunch of Shan well-wishers from across the Myanmar border came to take a photo with the volunteers at the press center. #ThaiCaveRescue
a helicopter just landed very close to the rescue site. #ThaiCaveRescue
and an ambulance just drove by.
and now it’s starting to rain a lot.
two more ambulances have driven by in the last hour. still waiting for any official information on today’s progress.
one more ambulance drove by. not clear that any boys are in these ambulances though. if the divers went in after 9am, as we believe they did, they wouldn’t be out until tonight.
today’s first press briefing starting now. 🎤 #ThaiCaveRescue
Chiang Rai governor Narongsak chastised some journalists for flying drones near the rescue site, which could obstruct rescue helicopters, and for “hacking” private frequencies to get info. He acknowledged that most press have followed the rules. #ThaiCaveRescue
He denied reports that six boys have been rescued and confirmed that the four who are free will be reunited with their families after being tested for infections. Some complained of hunger and asked pad krapao - basil chicken and rice.
doctors are being consulted about the possibility of the four boys being able to see their relatives through a glass barrier at the hospital.
no updates on the progress of today’s rescue operations, other than that they began at around 11am. if they proceed at the same pace as yesterday, at least one boy could be out in the next three or four hours.
after about 30 min of unconfirmed reports that a 5th boy was rescued from the cave, an ambulance drove by the press center, followed a few seconds later by a helicopter. 🚁🚑rescue still unconfirmed. #ThaiCaveRescue
in the span of a few seconds, an ambulance and a helicopter went past the press center in mae sai. we’re working to confirm reports that a 5th boy has been rescued from #ThamLuang cave. | @matthew_weaver
confirmed by a source at the rescue site that a fifth boy has exited the cave.
sixth boy confirmed, too. 🐗✊🏾
End-of-day press briefing about to start. 8 boys confirmed free today. Norwegian media @vgnett quoting Mae Sai district manager Somsak Kanakham as saying 11 boys are free. In a few minutes, we’ll know how many boys still need to be rescued. #ThaiCaveRescue
An update on the Thai Navy SEALs pages says: “2 days, 8 Wild Boars.” ☀️🐗🐗🐗🐗☀️🐗🐗🐗🐗#ThaiCaveRescue
