So I'm trying to figure out how walking works. I know, it's something I shoulda learned at 1 yro, but I'm trying to figure it out now. To start with, I'm trying to figure out how much exercise most people get on a daily basis.
I'm finding out that even though I do evening walks for over an hour, I'm still behind the average. I barely get 10,000 steps (according to Fitbit) in a day, but that many (most?) get that just in their normal daily routine.
Several small walks are easier than one long walk. After around 4 miles, my feet start to hurt unbearably, but a couple days ago, I did 8 miles separated into roughly three equal length walks.
Which is really demotivating. I've walked around the Washington Mall in two trips to D.C., but I can only do a relatively small bit at a time compared to other tourists who will easily walk 10 miles in a day without too much problem.
So what are the best walking shoes for somebody with bad feet? I've got wide feet so most shoes are sized wrong, I've got lots of extra pairs of shoes I've had to abandon because they just don't fit right.
Looking online, there seem to be lots of trails in parks in my local city that I need to go try out for some diversity, rather than just walking around and around and around the local neighborhood. I can now see the appeal of driving somewhere just to walk.
I get these odd pains in my feet that last a few hours or days. I'm not sure what they are, I suspect gout sometimes, or maybe bursitis under the big toe. But then it goes away and appears elsewhere.
