/18 This is a thread. Having accrued a small contingent of followers, I'll share my observations of Twitter's censorship. For each of the following tweet caps, take note of the highlighted date/time of the tweet and its capture, follower counts, and the number of likes and RTs.
/18 Ever wonder how tweets from conservative accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers rarely garner more than 30k likes, but tweets from leftist accounts with merely a few hundred followers will amass hundreds of thousands of likes within 24-48 hours?
/18 As soon as I gave notice to these tweets, I began capturing them and soon discovered a trend that consistently yields predictable results. About 90% of the time, I am able to successfully predict that they belong to leftist accounts before even viewing the accounts' TLs.
/18 This is due to Twitter's algorithms which work by detecting accounts' political leanings and then ranking them accordingly. This detection is easily executed by observing who an account follows, who it is followed by, and its interactions with other accounts.
/18 Now Twitter can decide who to promote to the top of discussions, as well as who to downrank which renders an account virtually invisible. It's why political trends are almost always pro-left or anti-right, why discussions are almost entirely devoid of right-wing viewpoints.
/18 So what's the overall impact? Political manipulation. If social media can convince everyone that 90% of the population supports open borders, abortion, repealing 2A, and other leftist stances, detractors will be more likely to change their own positions on said issues.
/18 Additionally, when companies see calls for their boycotts on Twitter backed by 200-300k likes, they're more prone to buckle under fear of a PR disaster. We see this when companies begin dropping advertisers and discount programs whenever David Hogg waves his fist in the air.
/18 Even more chilling is how this empowers the left to exhibit toxic behaviors with impunity. This tweet received massive support for condoning throwing a drink in Tomi Lahren's face, a form of physical assault, but the left is too intoxicated by mob justice to care.
/18 In short, Twitter is amplifying the voices of the left while putting ours on squelch. When we speak, you barely hear a murmur. When just one of them speaks, you hear a clap of thunder.
/18 So what's motivating Twitter to do this? It's clearly a response to Trump's election, much of the campaigning for which was done right here on Jack's own platform. He feels fully complicit and has vowed to make amends even if it means abusing his power as Twitter CEO.
/18 So now Twitter is broken down into a series of segregated networks of varying size. Conservatives are sequestered into the smaller networks of minimal visibility. The left, however, exists in the larger network where even the smallest accounts gain massive visibility.
/18 Relegating conservatives to the weaker networks has hampered our ability to communicate and mobilize. It can also have a defeating, psychological effect that can lead to apathy and complacence, useful for keeping the opposition on the couch and out of the voting booth.
/18 On the left is another story. Being so well-connected to one another in the larger network, they have become energized and fully invigorated. They are mobilized and ready to crawl over broken glass this November to vote. This should scare all of us.
/18 And it's all going according to plan. As the midterms draw closer, social media giants become progressively more brazen in their tactics. It's a clever strategy, one they're executing carefully with painstaking effort in order to avoid playing their ace card too soon.
/18 And about that ace card? They'll play it at the very last minute when there is no time for a legislative response. And it's not just any ace card... it's their Trump card, and it will be a doozy.
/18 In closing, conservatives may be hosed this November unless something is done NOW to reverse the social media effect. Unfortunately, with November so close, I do not believe the solution can be an organic one, and will instead require an executive order by the president.
/18 This order would have to be executed now so that conservatives can use the little remaining time between now and the midterms to patch up the damage done by the broken networks that social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have left us with.
/18 Let's hope we can succeed in pulling the reins on social media. If the left wins in November and 2020, they will do everything in their power to ensure that we never win another election again.
