Two years ago, I twisted my left ankle 270° and broke it in seven places. The damage was so bad, the Swedish doctors even considered amputating it. I spent two weeks in hospital and had extensive surgery. I paid $111 for a treatment which would've bankrupted me for life in the US
I even took the time to figure out how much my surgery and follow-up treatment would have cost in the US, as I was supposed to spend time in California shortly after my accident, and found out that it would have set me back more than $275,000.
If I have to choose between an American Freedom™ approved bill of $275,000 and socialist healthcare costing me no more than $111, I know what I'm choosing any and every day of the week.

Har på mig kolt på jobbet idag. För att jag kan, och jag vill. För att jag inte tycker att det är konstigare än att ta på mig en kostym, eller en snygg skjorta.
Och just i dag känner jag att det är bra att jag är vuxen, och inte längre en blyg och osäker tonåring med komplex för min kultur. Han som inte så gärna berättade att han kom norrifrån.
Att jag inte längre är pojken som slutade prata sin hemdialekt för att han blev mobbad för den i Sveriges femte största stad. Han som fick kvarsittning för att han tog med sig en samisk flagga till klassens timme, en fredag i årskurs tre.

Någonting har nämligen hänt.

- Varje kommun måste nu sätta upp mål för att sänka sjuktalen.

- Bättre ordning i lönestrukturen, kompetens och erfarenhet skall premieras.
- Turordningsreglerna skall utgå ifrån skolans specifika behov.
- Inga väsentliga förändringar i avtalet från det förra kring turordning.
- Lokala parter åläggs arbetsplatsspecifika arbetsmiljöarbeten.
- SKL är okej med avtalet, då de känner att de kan få igenom sina turordningsregler vid nästa avtalsomgång.
- Avtalet är ett specifikt skolavtal, som ålägger de lokala parterna att göra ett faktiskt arbetsmiljöarbete ute på skolorna, som också kommer att följas upp.

Some of our students' parents were shocked to hear about the amount of Nazi symbols found around our school and on our students' computers at our parent-teacher conference.

I, however, couldn't be less shocked.
I've heard so many of the very same parents complain about the mere presence of immigrants in their sons' and daughters' classes, and seen how they've laughed along to sexist and homophobic jokes in front of their children.
You can't complain about other children's bad behaviour when, at the same time, you're consciously or subconsciously contributing to a system where being xenophobic, casually sexist and proudly homophobic is part of the norm.

You have two superior options:
1. Celebrate each day a temporary physical item is not destroyed. “Good morning, coffee cup! It is so great to see you not broken again today!!”
2. Put your effort and emotion into unbreakable eternal projects. Beads on the string of causation.
Here’s a short list of things that won’t be eventually ruined predictably in a fire, flood, or disaster:
- teaching someone
- forgiveness
- love
- helping someone through a hard time

These project lead to other effects and so on. Eternally. Each is indestructible. Causation.

I keep thinking back to a discussion a few months on reddit about THE BELGARIAD. Several comments were made about it being cliche and pedestrian, and someone said, “Yeah, it’s a fine story, but it’s never going to be a classic.”
And all I could think to respond was, “It’s over thirty years later and we’re still talking about it. How is that NOT ‘a classic’?
But that got me thinking- I cite THE BELGARIAD (and THE MALLOREON, its sequel series) as one of my influential works. But what is that influence? I know I’ve read the whole series several times. My copies of the books are in terrible shape.

Marilyn Monroe was born #OnThisDay 1926.

Famous for playing comic "blonde bombshell" characters, Monroe became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and was emblematic of the era's attitudes towards sexuality.
On August 5, 1962, she died at age 36 from an overdose of barbiturates at her home in Los Angeles. Although Monroe's death was ruled a probable suicide, several conspiracy theories have been proposed in the decades following her death.

“I've been trying to write this since this page was set up. Today marks the 8th anniversary of when the 8th amendment put my life in danger so it seems apt to share my story now...
8 years ago I was pregnant with twins. All was going well and my 16 week scan showed two healthy babies. Less than 2 weeks later I had some pains and heavy discharge.
I went to the hospital where I was checked out and had a scan. All seemed ok with the babies and I was prescribed antibiotics for a uti. The following morning I felt very sick and started to bleed so I went into the maternity emergency room again.

It was right about now, 243 years ago, that Paul Revere left Dr. Joseph Warren's home in Boston and began his journey towards Lexington and the history books.
Before Revere left Boston, he had to assure that Patriots across the Charles River in Charlestown would get word of which route the British Regulars would be using to reach Lexington. For that, he enlisted the help of Robert Newman and Thomas Bernard.
Revere knew almost every son of liberty in Boston, thanks to his booming business and his never-ending networking. Newman happened to be a church sexton whose family reluctantly housed British soldiers to help make ends meet. He had access to the belfry at Old North Church.
