Large tech platforms at varying layers of the stack have gotten insanely good at mass, automated filtering of SPAM & viruses. To see this tech suddenly applied to CAD files & to news articles about said CAD files is terrifying.
We've let them build these filters for things we all agree are bad, like SPAM. And now that we're seeing them applied to political speech, it's dawning on us what kind of world we've built in the name of safety and convenience.
There is a new law that we all need to recognize is in operation, & it goes something like this: anything they can do to SPAM, they can do to political speech.
It needs to be a "rule" like Rule 34 -- if they can do it to SPAM, they can do it to political communication. Govern yourself accordingly.
Guys there are ~5 tech platforms that control almost all online speech, and ~5 banks that control most of the financial system. What are we going to do when they boot any and all gun-related content off their networks? And if you cheer that, first they came for the gun nuts...
We thought this gun issue was gonna play out in the elections & courts, but it may well go the way ~10 large corps decide it should go. And once they get a taste of that, they'll come for something you care about, next. Count on it.
What's shocking to me is the number of people who style themselves as part of a resistance against fascism are cheering on these naked displays of corporate repression.
