This is a long post but please take the time to scroll through. This is the BEGINNING of the impact that tariffs are having on our economy. Everyone gets so caught up on will Manafort be found guilty, will Omarosa release another tape, what did Trump tweet, what did Rudy say. /1
But there are really important things that are going to cause makor long term damage occuring. So today I’m going to start focusing on that. This first thread will be about tariffs. /2
Yamaha Motor: $9,000,000 impact on U.S.-made boats exported to Canada and Europe starting next summer.

Newell Brands: $100,000,000 annualized impact. Includes Rubbermaid containers, Crock-Pot and Sunbeam appliances, and Graco infant gear
Toyota: $90,000,000 annual profit cut.
May have to stop importing some vehicles because of proposed U.S. tariffs

General Motors: Cut forecast for year on surging prices for steel and aluminum as tariffs stoke demand. Could be forced to cut U.S. jobs if tariffs are applied to imported vehicles and auto parts.

Lincoln Electric: Maker of welding equipment and supplies is raising prices on so-called consumables via surcharges instead of permanent hikes because it’s not clear how long tariffs will be in place. /26
Stanley Black & Decker: Est $35 million impact in 2018 from tariffs already implemented; projects up to $80 million a year in costs from Trump’s proposal for $200 billion additional China tariffs including vacuums, hand tools, power tool accessories. Plans price increases. /27
General Electric: Sees as much as $400 million a year in impact from current and proposed tariffs, though about half could be offset by credits for exports to China. May adjust supply chain to mitigate effects. /28
Gentex: Maker of rearview mirrors for cars cut its annual gross margin forecast, citing increased raw material costs of as much as $8 million in the second half linked to imports from China.

Element Electronics, the only USA assembler of televisions, announced plant closure in Winnsboro, SC, leaving over 200 unemployed. The layoff and closure is a result of the new tariffs that were recently and unexpectedly imposed on many goods imported from China. /41
Mid-Continent Nail, laid off 60 workers after sales plunged 70% in the aftermath of Trump imposing a 25 percent tariff on steel from Mexico and Canada. The company said it worries more layoffs will occur and that by Labor Day the entire 500-member WF would be terminated. /42
About 100 employees were laid off from REC Silicon, which supplies silicon materials for solar panels, in the company's Moses Lake plant. The plant also cut production by 25 percent. /43
Tariffs could cost up to 4,000 new jobs at a new Volvo plant that opened in South Carolina. Volvo Cars Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson told Reuters that the "trade barriers and restrictions" would prevent them from creating "as many jobs as we are planning." /44
Prices have increased at Vintage Industrial, a steel furniture company in Phoenix, because of the 25-percent tariff on imported steel. The tariff has boosted raw-material costs, and forced a 5-10 % price increase. 45/45
