Trump gave Sessions the job for the same reason he hired Cohen as his personal attorney.
Because he thought Sessions was a corrupt little toady who would abuse his office to attack Trump's political enemies and to help Trump profit from the office and for no other reason.

Trump says this stuff without a shred of self-awareness. I gave him the job because I thought he'd be loyal to me and for no other reason.
