Not going to bother with countering this bilge from @BBCr4today and @hbaldwin. It's already been covered to death in the responses. Here's a thing though: This is not the first time that this nonsense has come up nor is it the first time that it's been dismantled by experts. ➡️
Last week, @JasonJHunter said - following his appearance on @BBCRADIOKENT that Remain supporters shouldn't refer to Leavers as 'liars' because they could genuinely just be under-informed. And that's a fair position to take…the first time. ➡️
Jason's interviewer on Radio Kent didn't seek to present himself as an 'expert' and - to be honest - he appeared scrupulously fair in allowing a debate to develop between Jason and @Isaby. He allowed himself to be educated by both sides. ➡️
That isn't what's happening in this clip: @BBCsarahsmith is presenting a government MP and minister with talking points which are - by any interpretation - misleading at best and is leading her by the hand with no challenges to the false information being presented. ➡️
There are several reasons to find that troubling, but the one I'm going to choose to be concerned with is that the BBC's news/current affairs teams generally and individuals specifically have been told on numerous occasions about the nature of EU tariffs on African goods…➡️
…and the nature of the EBA, GSP or GSP+ arrangements not to mention the fact that the EU's deeper free-trade arrangements are documented on the EU's own website. ➡️
Now, either the BBC's journalists and research staff are incredibly lazy and don't do any qualitative research or indeed read their own Twitter accounts or…➡️
…THEY'RE JUST LYING AN/OR NOT CHALLENGING BECAUSE IT SUITS THEIR OWN PREJUDICES or BECAUSE THEY"VE BEEN TOLD TO AS A CONSCIOUS EDITORIAL POLICY. ➡️
So I guess the question is: "Which is it?"

Why does the BBC's news and current affairs division simply not bother with verifying facts and ensuring presenters are briefed by subject matter experts/analysts before allowing politicians to spew disinformation on air? ➡️
Because, being honest, anybody could do the job of presenting a BBC news/current affairs programme based on the current standard. And the sole qualifications for presenting @BBCr4today seem to be being able to get up early in the morning. ⏹️
