Putting Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the White House, and lying to the entire country about your actual opinion of her and how surprised you are at her unfitness, are just by themselves so bad they outweigh the sum total of every good thing McCain ever did in politics.
There is absolutely no question the country would have been at less risk if he had never entered politics at all. And I think that's true even from a conservative perspective.
A true person of courage would have spent the rest of their life in the deepest atonement for putting lives at risk. He would have told you how he endangered your family and begged you for forgiveness. He didn't have that kind of courage or integrity.
There are tens of thousands of Americans who absolutely would. I've been lucky enough to know some of them. They've worked in peace activism, community organizing and activist journalism for decades.
Is McCain had joined the American Friends Service Committee he wouldn't have been in their members' 20th percentile of decency, honesty and integrity.
