Huge turnout at our forum to save Mt Coot-tha, stop the LNP's mega-zip line. We're here to reclaim control of our city. #qldpol #bne
Di Glynn and Peter Hale from Mt Coot-tha Protection Alliance: the mountain belongs to traditional custodians, and to all of us. The impact on the Botanic Gardens will be massive. Huge applause from the crowd.
Kate from @EDOQldLaw - we can help citizens who want to use the law to protect the environment. Free advice line, advocacy, law reform-- the works!
.@jonathan_sri: City Cabinet make decisions in secret, led by just a few key LNP opinion leaders. The public is not stupid. Let's put this to a public vote of everyone in Brisbane. #BNE
Council should not be assessing Council applications. Cr Griffiths raising concerns and calling for an independent assessment process. Not clear if Labor will support a public vote.
Anne Boccabella from the @TWSQld - what is the process for community consultation? In answer, Cr McLachlan simply reads from Departmental outline.
Q and A panel-- Peter Hale, Di Glynn, myself, Steve Griffiths, Nicole Johnstone, Peter Matic, David McLachlan, Mike from Zipline Aus.
Q from @JakeSchoermer Greens candidate for Ryan: who will be left with the cleanup bill if the project falls over. No answer from Cr McLachlan-- he says its a "hypothetical".
Mike from Zipline Aus: the price for the zip still isn't finalised. (Editor's note-- previously we've heard $100 a pop)
Dozens of people wanting to ask Qs- far more than we have time for. Serious, engaged, passionate questions, but disappointing answers from LNP and Zipline Aus so far. Constant themes- backwards planning process, minimal consultation, lack of engagement w First Nations folks.
Local resident Paul: having lived here for years, there are almost no public transport options for getting to the Mountain. Will anyone be funding that? No extra info. Shuttle bus to move around the mountain.
Last Q is a basic one-- how did the proposal get off the ground?

This is really telling. As far as we can tell, the Lord Mayor just stood up during the election and announced it. Cr McLachlan says they just looked back over old submissions for the future of Mt Coot-tha.
