Six local elected officials from Durham, NC, visited Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA. Our staff and volunteers are at Stewart every day providing free legal representation to detained immigrants facing deportation. facingsouth.org/2018/08/durham…

Peter Brown is a US citizen who was mistakenly detained by ICE after local sheriffs arrested him. We're suing. npr.org/2018/12/18/677…
In January, 17 Florida counties signed Basic Ordering Agreements, which compensate local sheriffs for their collaboration with ICE. Our lawsuit is the first to challenge a Florida sheriff for unlawfully detaining people at ICE’s request as part of a BOA. splcenter.org/news/2018/12/0…

Advocates are calling what happened to Samuel Oliver Bruno yesterday as "kidnapping," and it's hard to characterize it another way. The day after Thanksgiving, ICE agents in plainclothes tackled him in a USCIS office where he left his sanctuary church for a biometrics appointment
They shoved Samuel into a car in front his family and supporters and for some reason, ICE's assistant director of the the Charlotte field office - Robert Alfieri- was there to help detain Samuel.
I urge all of you to watch the video in which Alfieri and other plainclothes ICE agents push and shove faith leaders & Samuel's supporters, only to arrest 27 of them. ICE's spokesperson for the Southeast, Bryan Cox, is also claiming Samuel's son, Daniel, "assaulted" an ICE agent.

Samuel Oliver-Bruno is in this van, in ICE custody. Bruno has been living in sanctuary in #Durham church for 11 months. Today, he left for ICE appointment, as he seeks deferred deportation. At that appointment, he was arrested. Church members, clergy, blocking van. @WRAL #WRAL

Lawyers for Good Government is sending a volunteer Immigration lawyer to this “tent city” in Tornillo. She will be part of a group of volunteer lawyers conducting legal intake interviews with hundreds of detained children.

Based on her experience we hope to be able to send additional volunteer lawyers to assist at Tornillo and other detention facilities jailing children across the United States.
We’re also currently providing remote legal representation to detained fathers at Karnes detention center, drafting legal briefs for dozens of asylum seekers every month, and sending volunteer lawyers to several family detention centers.

(2) To save time I'm presenting photos without locations and names. Most of the initial batch are from the area first hit in NC: Wilmington, New Bern, James City and surrounds.

Urban SAR team uses poles to check for debris & holes as they walk through floodwater.
(3) Rescuers with part of the huge tree that fell on a home, killing 2 & critically injuring a 3rd occupant.

Tree broken off the stump, showing winds were strong enough that sodden soil wasn't always a factor. Being Cat 1 =/= low risk.

Literally a set of steps floating by.

ICE is reporting that Efrain De La Rosa, a Mexican immigrant from Puebla, has reportedly committed suicide while detained at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA. His is the third death at the facility in 15 months.
Stewart is notorious for being a sort of last stop before deportation for many immigrants and for many years, the judges there have denied a bulk of asylum claims.
This includes Judge Dan Trimble, who was on the board of visitors for the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, formerly known as the School of the Americas: rewire.news/article/2016/0…
