More fallout in Pakistan after brilliant economist @AtifRMian is asked to step down from the country's Economic Advisory Council for the simple reason that he's Ahmadi. More economists are quitting the EAC in protest. When you let bigotry rule, you deprive yourself of top talent.
@AtifRMian 1. Even if Ahmadis "weren't Muslim", purging economists out of government for being of a different faith is small minded, stupid, and grossly discriminatory
2. Anyone who believes in the Qur'an and prays towards the Kaaba is my brother in Islam regardless their interpretation

Beautiful people, this is my first truly free week in while. I'm hoping to recover and recharge. I'm going to go offline for a few days and will temporarily delete the Twitter app from my phone.
I'll try as much as possible to not know what's going on in the world. I hope nobody kills or disappears any of my friends (and nobody tries to kill me) in the meanwhile.

Wow. When @Netflix censors material on behalf of Mohammad bin Salman.
Many of us Arabs were very excited when Netflix launched its MENA division, because we thought this is a way in which we can bypass censorship. I guess there's the end of that.
Money always comes ahead of principles. Corporatism is a pillar of the structure of power that keeps us pinned down.

1/ The same day I saw @itaidamti tweet I was also asked about an investor we know very well- and didn’t have a good experience with. I wanted to convey questions to push the investor on. (HT to @davetisch as well)
2/ It got me inspired to send the email below with context on questions to ask before taking an investment from a VC/PE firm.
3/ Let’s be clear, it is absolutely not realistic to be able to ask all of these questions, and some might even turn off the investor. But I wish I had even known to think of some of these questions- as they would have triggered me to act differently.

1/ For the sake of the stability of the Government of Pakistan, I have resigned from the Economic Advisory Council, as the Government was facing a lot of adverse pressure regarding my appointment from the Mullahs (Muslim clerics) and their supporters.
2/ Nevertheless, I will always be ready to serve Pakistan as it is the country in which I was raised and which I love a great deal. Serving my country is an inherent part of my faith and will always be my heartfelt desire.
3/ Moving forward, I now hope and pray that the Economic Advisory Council is able to fulfill its mandate in the very best way so that the Pakistani people and nation can prosper and flourish.
