Surreal. Government's response to @Suewilson91's claim that EU ref was not a fair or free vote: " At the time the decision to give article 50 notice was taken, it was a matter of public record that campaigners may have breached campaign finance requirements," 1/
Suppose a student of mine is awarded a degree even though he cheated on his exam, and this has now been definitely confirmed. Oh, but it's all fine, I say, he can keep his degree. It's fine because you see, I *expected* of this student that he would cheat! 2/
But even though I expected it, and my colleagues expected it, we still went ahead to award him the degree. Since we knew cheating had taken place, but still went ahead with it, the result should stand, right? Right? 3/
“The contention that the decision to give article 50 notice was founded on a premise that there had been universal compliance with those requirements is therefore incorrect and unarguable.” --> we knew they cheated but we didn't care. 4/
I wonder if this generalizes to other domains: If you steal something, can you keep your loot when other people expected you'd steal, etc.?
The normal rules of reasoning never seem to apply when Brexit is involved /ends
