It’s true, I think, that those of us primed in the detail of particular regulatory regimes (eg medicines and aviation in my case) are pretty well inoculated against “it’ll be alright on the night/we’ll just do a side deal” optimism from some less specialist quarters.
That’s because, in many cases, the legal consequences of falling out really are quite stark and dramatic for U.K. businesses and individuals: and side deals time-consuming to arrange (and dependent on good will, which ex hypothesi is a bit dubious).
But understanding that means delving into the detail and getting it right, which appears to be beyond many commentators from the “it’ll be alright on the night” school.
