The problem with the world today is this "Us Vs them" polarization that mainstream media is driving. Once someone is the considered a part of a different group, we are being taught not to even listen to what they have to say before jumping to conclusions about their intentions.
The fact that you identify as republican doesn't mean you're racist. Being Muslim doesn't make you a terrorist. Supporting gay rights does not mean you don't believe in God.
We need to listen and dialogue more. Every time you feel the urge to disregard someone's opinions because you have categorized them, remind yourself that perspectives only change when minds are open.
Those ideas that you believe are the right ones can only be communicated and possibly adopted if your audience is willing to listen and understand your perspective. Should you not be willing to listen to theirs as well?
It's OK to have different opinions but realize that the peace we enjoy in the world today was achieved through dialogue. Ignore media that is constantly trying to tell you how to feel about any and everything.
Be willing to listen to both sides of every argument. There's always something to learn from either perspectives, no matter how ridiculous they initially seem.
